tylosin for brown hair in old dogs and for lick sores
i found that brown hair occuring on my dogs was not just cosmetic as sometimes it lead to lick sores that were hard to contain. no vet had any idea of what it was or how to treat it but years ago it was an ingredient in angel eyes that dog show people used to clear up the brown stain on show dogs eye areas. so I tried the 25mg and it worked but took a long time. now I am using the 100mg every other day and I see the gradual change from brown hair back to white. it occurs mostly in dogs over 5 years old in my kennel but is stil leffective for eye stains in my show dogs if I am showing a white faced dog. I recommend using it for lick sores. I am not a vet, but have been a breeder for 35 years and am an MD physician.

Hard to review meds
We had Tylosin compounded as my dog wouldnt take the plain powder. Well, this must still be bitter, because she hates this too (she takes other meds just fine). Would be nice if it could be flavored. It does the job, but giving it is still a chore.

Great product
From UndisclosedComments about Tylosin (Compounded) 90mg, per CapsuleI choose this product on recommendation from my vet. Carson is 16 years old and had an issue with pooping occasionally in the house. He's never done that before and he also needed to poop sometimes very early in the morning. He was really off of his normal schedule and his poop was usually very soft and somewhat runny. Vet told me about this medication and it's been working wonderfully! He takes it every other day with it wrapped in a little peanut butter! Excellent product!! Back on his normal schedule now and much firmer poop.-

This product was most helpful.
From UndisclosedComments about Tylosin (Compounded) 150mg, per CapsuleMy beautiful boy acquired an immune disorder, lymphangiectasia, and to aid in getting his bouts of loose stools and diarrhea under control, my veterinarian recommended this product which we had compounded to fit his needs and dosing. Although this review is specifically for this product, we also had him a a wonderful probiotic, VIsbiome. VetRxDirect was my go to provider for most of his needs and was extremely reliable and staff always professional. It is with heavy heart to let you know Paddington has recently passed away. -

Order 3 weeks before you need it!
From UndisclosedComments about Tylosin (Compounded)Product arrived as ordered with a free sample of treats. The treats came in handy since it reminded me to follow the meds with some treats. The ordering process was easy however the compounding and shipping part was very slow. It took 2 weeks for the order to arrive. An email said the order had been processed and generally ships within 2-3 days business days. It didn't ship until a full week after that. It is a good thing this wasn't a drug I needed immediately. -

My vet wants me to give 1/4 teaspoon of Tylosin twice a day. What size tablet/cap would this be in comparison to 1/4 teaspoon??
-
Per Plumb's Veterinary Handbook 8th edition, 1 level tsp of tylosin powder weighs approximately 2.5-2.7 grams. Therefore, ¼ teaspoon would be approximately 650-675 mg. We do not offer the capsules in that high of a strength, however we do offer the 325 mg capsules. You would have to give 2 capsules twice daily to equal your previous dosage. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Hello my dog takes tylan 1tsp twice a day. What size should I order for 1tsp capsules? Thank you?
-
Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic used in dogs for chronic colitis. One teaspoon of tylosin is roughly 2.5-2.7 grams (2500-2700 mg). The largest capsule we are able to compound of tylosin is 450 mg. This means your dog would need 5 to 6 capsules per dose. Talk with your veterinarian about the best option for treating your dog's condition. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Can I open the capsules and give it as a powder if I can't get him to take it?
-
You can open the capsule and sprinkle over the pet’s food, but tylosin has a naturally bitter taste and may not be well accepted by your pet. If you are having a hard time getting your pet to take tylosin, talk to your veterinarian about other options for administration or if there are other agents available for pet’s condition. I need 15 capsules of TYLOSINE 25 mg/kg for my rescued greyhound.?
-
Orders can be placed through our website at any time. As Tylosin is a prescription medication, you will be required to create an account and include your greyhound's information as well as the veterinarian information. Once you've placed your order, we will send a request to your dog's veterinarian requesting approval for the prescription. If your dog's veterinarian does not fax prescriptions, they may opt to give you a written prescription which you can then mail to us. After we receive the prescription, the order would go to compounding to be made, and then shipped out. If you have any difficulty placing your order or any additional questions, you can contact us at 866-761-6578 and a technician would be happy to talk you through the order process. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Can these capsules be open to put directly on food? Also, I have this for my dog in a jar and my vet precribed 1 1/2 teaspoon 2x day with food. Would these capsules be equal to 1 1/2 teaspoon per capsule? Thanks so much.Sincerely,Jeanne?
-
Jeanne, Tylosin may be spread over food to mask the bitterness of the medication, however the whole dose of the medication and therefore the entire meal must be eaten in order for the dog to receive the whole dose. Be careful because the medication is very bitter so it's common for pets to stop eating before the whole dose is consumed. Also, it is important if you choose to add the medication to water rather than food, then water should be added to the dose of powder rather than the powder being added into the water. Unfortunately, we are unable to equate 340mg capsules with 1.5 teaspoons of powder since we do not know how much weight of medication is held in teaspoons. However, it may be helpful to know the compounded capsules contain only 340mg of Tylosin with no added inactive ingredients. We recommend to use the dose for your dog out of the jar as recommended by your dog's veterinarian or to order the size capsules (in mg) as prescribed by your pet's veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect
