second round was a nightmare
From dallas, txComments about Terbinafine (Generic)the 1st round of treatment was good. spots dried up and were healing. 7 days off of meds. second round was a different story. both cats that were being treated started vomiting throughout the day. so no telling how much of the meds stayed in their system. one got a secondary infection, raw wounds on his face. not blaming the meds, just didn't work for my 2 monsters. i would not recomnend due to my experience. -
Works but hard to swallow for a cat
From UndisclosedComments about Terbinafine (Generic)My pet is healing well from ring worm but he hates taking the pill and is horrible to get him to swallow. It's working though so that's the most important! -
I will order again
From UndisclosedComments about Terbinafine (Generic)I couldn't find this medication on the normal website that I use. The price was great compared to local stores around me. The shipping was fast! I was impressed with VetRxDirect and how efficient they were. -
Best and most cost effective drug to treat ringworm
From UndisclosedComments about Terbinafine (Generic)I almost exclusively rescue kittens with ringworm from our municipal kill shelter. I have tried other drugs as well as topical regimens, but the most effective in my opinion is this terbinafine in tablet form. It's also much much less expensive than Itrafungal, the only other oral drug that tends to be effective (although in my experience, not as effective as terbinafine). Also, a HUGE plus is that the pills don't taste that bad, so many cats will eat the pills crushed into food or liquid treats. This is SO Much less stressful for the animal and their guardian! Three weeks of terbinafine, especially when combined with sulfur lime dips and some topical ointments has always done the trick. Kittens are ringworm free and ready for their new homes within a month! -
Worked Wonders !!!
From Carrollton , VAComments about Terbinafine (Generic)My Vet has prescribed Turbinafine for my small Maltese mix who has suffered for years with a severe skin condition. This is the ONLY product that has worked controlling the scabbing and constant Yeast Infections she suffers.

Q & A

If my vet has Terbinafine suspension to treat my 5month old kitten's ringworm can I buy the tablets and crush them (using equivalent amount of mg) and add to food??
-
Currently there is no data to support mixing crushed terbinafine tablets into food. Commercially available tablets are only sold in a 250mg strength and may not offer the dose your pet requires in a way that can be accurately proportioned. Speak with your veterinarian to confirm if using the commercially available tablets mixed into food would be an appropriate option for your cat.

My vet prescribed a dose of (2) 250mg tabs TWICE a day for my 30lb doodle with a nasty case of ringworm in her ears. That seems like a high dose to me. I called and asked them twice and they said it's okay. Does that dose fall within the range of safe dosing? It still worries me.?
-
The dosage of this medication will depend on the severity of your pet’s condition. Your veterinarian is the best source of information for your dog, please consult with them with any further questions concerning the dosage of this medication for your dog.

My vet prescribed 4 250mg tablets once a day for a month for my 60 pound dog, which also seemed like a high dose to me. It seems like dogs may be able to tolerate this drug better than humans.

Can terbinafine be given with amoxicillin??
-
There are no known drug interactions with amoxicillin and terbinafine. Amoxicillin can be given with or without food, but food may help alleviate GI side effects if noted. Terbinafine is recommended to be administered with food particularly if vomiting is seen. Speak with your veterinarian about the proper timing of amoxicillin and terbinafine administration.
