second round was a nightmare
From dallas, txComments about Terbinafine (Generic)the 1st round of treatment was good. spots dried up and were healing. 7 days off of meds. second round was a different story. both cats that were being treated started vomiting throughout the day. so no telling how much of the meds stayed in their system. one got a secondary infection, raw wounds on his face. not blaming the meds, just didn't work for my 2 monsters. i would not recomnend due to my experience. -
Works but hard to swallow for a cat
From UndisclosedComments about Terbinafine (Generic)My pet is healing well from ring worm but he hates taking the pill and is horrible to get him to swallow. It's working though so that's the most important! -
I will order again
From UndisclosedComments about Terbinafine (Generic)I couldn't find this medication on the normal website that I use. The price was great compared to local stores around me. The shipping was fast! I was impressed with VetRxDirect and how efficient they were. -
Best and most cost effective drug to treat ringworm
From UndisclosedComments about Terbinafine (Generic)I almost exclusively rescue kittens with ringworm from our municipal kill shelter. I have tried other drugs as well as topical regimens, but the most effective in my opinion is this terbinafine in tablet form. It's also much much less expensive than Itrafungal, the only other oral drug that tends to be effective (although in my experience, not as effective as terbinafine). Also, a HUGE plus is that the pills don't taste that bad, so many cats will eat the pills crushed into food or liquid treats. This is SO Much less stressful for the animal and their guardian! Three weeks of terbinafine, especially when combined with sulfur lime dips and some topical ointments has always done the trick. Kittens are ringworm free and ready for their new homes within a month! -

My vet prescribed 1 terbinafine 250 mg - once per day for a 17.5 pound dog with ear issues and foot issues (probably all fungal issues with an anal gland issue also). When I look up that dose, it seems like it is terribly strong for a small dog. That is an adult humans dose. should I be concerned??
-
According to Plumb's Veterinary Drug Book, the recommended dose of terbinafine for a dog is 30-35mg/kg once or twice daily depending on the type of condition. If your dog weighs 17.5 lbs (7.9 kg), this dose of 30-35mg/kg would be equivalent to 0.9 or 1.1 tablets of 250mg terbinafine. If you have any questions about this medication and your pet, we recommend consulting with your veterinarian.

Is 1500MG per day of Terbinafine enough of a dosage for my 135lb Great Dane who has a fairly severe skin fungal infection? Trying to determine costs of different prescriptions.?
-
The dosage of terbinafine for your dog will depend on many factors such as type and severity of infection, previous drug therapies that may have been used, and your pet's health history. We recommend contacting your veterinarian for the correct dosage and the duration of therapy required.

My vet just gave me a prescription for this. Four 250mg tabs every 12 hours. This seems like it could kill my 70 lb dog. Is this a safe dosage??
-
Terbinafine is an oral and topical antifungal used primarily for skin, hair and nail infections, but may also be useful for fungal infections inside the body.. When dosing for dogs twice daily the typical dose range is 30 - 35 mg/kg twice a day. Your dog weighs 31.8 kg so the calculated dose would be roughly 950 mg - 1100 mg twice daily. Terbinafine only comes in 250 mg tablets so giving your dog 1000 mg twice daily should be safe dosing based on current evidence.

Hi. So my mom gave her kitten 1ml of this liquid turbinafine instead of .1ml. Is her kitten gonna be ok. What should we watch for??
-
Terbinafine is an antifungal agent that is typically well-tolerated in animals. The most common adverse effects are related to an upset stomach and include vomiting, low appetite, and diarrhea. Terbinafine can also cause sleepiness and increased liver enzymes. At ten times the prescribed dose, the side effects are more likely to occur. Keep a close eye on the kitten over the next few days, and call your veterinarian if you notice any changes. It is also advisable to call your veterinarian now and inform them of what happened.

We had ringworm problem with our litter of kittens and we gave them the proper dosage of Terbinafine and it killed one of the kittens in the litter. I do not recommend giving it to kittens younger than 12 weeks

my vet gave my 6lb, 10mo. kitten 250mg per day of terbinafine a day for ringworm, is this too much? He has been on it a week and doesn,t want to eat much. They have just put him on 1/4 pill of mirtazapine every other day as a appetite stimulate, is this safe? Help I just want him to get well and eat.?
-
Mirtazapine is used to stimulate appetite and is generally well tolerated. Terbinafine is an antifungal used to treat ringworm and other fungal infections, a recommended dose is 20-30 mg/kg/day, but may be adjusted based on the individual needs of your pet. Terbinafine is mostly well tolerated with possible adverse effects being lack of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea. Additionally, oral tablets are reported to have an unpleasant taste which can contribute to the adverse effects. Please consult your veterinarian to discuss the lack of appetite since starting terbinafine.

-

The dose the veterinarian had prescribed for your dog is within the recommended dosing range. This medication is generally well tolerated, but upset stomach, vomiting, loss of appetite or diarrhea are possible while your dog is taking this medication. If you are concerned about the effect that this medication may be having on your dog, please contact your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

What is the dose for a 20lb dog??
-
The dosing and duration of treatment is dependent on what condition the medication is being used for. The dose is generally between 30-35 mg/kg two to three times daily. In your case, around 250 mg. We recommend you discuss this first with your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Is there a liquid form of this Terbinafine? Vet suggested putting 3/4 (dose for my dog) of the 250 mg tablet in peanut butter. My dog licked the peanut butter off and spit out the pill. She is much better with liquid.?
-
It looks like a liquid is available however it is a compounded medication. It is not commercially available. We do not currently compound this medication so you would need to see if there is a compounding pharmacy that would be able make it for you. Thank you, VetRxDirect

What is the prophylactic dose of terbinifine for aspergillius in birds of prey??
-
The choice to provide terbinafine as prophylactic antifungal therapy for prevention of aspergillosis in birds will be determined by your veterinarian. Additional studies are needed to determine the safety and treatment efficacy of terbinafine for this indication as limited data is available. Your veterinarian will be the best resource to determine the prophylactic dose you are requesting. Thank you, VetRxDirect
