w/ diet, a dramatic drop in elevated liver enzymes
I don't know whether I can credit SAMe-425 alone for the improvement (I also began supplementing my dog's diet with dandelion smoothies and kefir, increased her dose of vitamin E and fish oil, and broke up her home-cooked diet to 5 small meals per day), but after 3 months of the combined regimen, my 8-year-old blue heeler's liver enzymes went from off-the-charts high to high normal. Now, 5 months later, the values are completely within normal - about a 300% drop from when she was first diagnosed with advanced hepatobiliary disease. Her doctor said that she'd never seen anything like this. Again, I made several dietary changes at the same time she started taking SAMe-425, so I can't say this medication alone is responsible for the dramatic improvement. Still, much credit has to be given to SAMe-425, since previously a healthy, organic, home-cooked diet had not offset her serious liver problems. I definitely recommend it.

S-Adenosyl(SAMe)
From Secaucus, NJ, USAComments about S-AdenosylMy dachshund has a history of having high liver enzymes (app. over 1400 in early 2014).now in Dec. 2014 her enzymes dropped to over 600. Also, she was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease which keeps her level of enzymes high - S-Adenosyl(SAMe) helps keep the level down. Really Helpful! -

SamE
From Mpls, MN, USAComments about S-AdenosylI'm so glad I discovered this website the prices are so much more reasonable than what I was paying at my vets. This supplement is being given for liver support and it in addition to changing her diet has normalized her liver values. Going on a year now with no recurrences and normal liver function test results, -

The directions said do not crush but I can not get the pill down my small dog. How much of the effect of this pill is loss if I crush it to give to her? This also has milk thissle in it?
-
According to the manufacturer, Adenosyl tablets are sensitive to moisture and heat and should not be split or crumbled because they may lose some or all of their effect. We recommend talking with your veterinarian if this product is difficult to administer to your pet. They may be able to suggest a different formula or demonstrate a different technique for easier administration.

I am giving my dog S-adenosyl-425. Vet says to wait 1 hour after giving the pill to feed the Dog. If I want to give the pill after he eats how long do I need to wait??
-
Per manufacturer, tablets should be given on an empty stomach, at least one hour before meals. Tablets are sensitive to moisture and heat and should not be split or crumbled. The manufacturer doesn't state how long to wait after the pet's meal to administer. This time frame may be 2 to 4 hours depending on the pet and size of meal. Please consult with your veterinarian to determine the appropriate dosing times for your dog.

can you soak the S adenosyl tablets so they get soft?
-
S-Adenosyl is used in pets to support healthy liver function. The manufacturer states these tablets are enteric-coated, they should not be broken or split and are sensitive to air and moisture. S-Adenosyl tablets should not be soaked. Getting them wet can disrupt the integrity of the medication and your pet may not get the full effect. The coating is designed to dissolve and release the drug at a certain point in the GI tract. They should be taken on an empty stomach at least one hour before or two hours after feeding to increase absorption. Talk with your veterinarian if you have questions about techniques for giving your pet oral medications. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Is milk thistle the same as Sam E? I ntoiced it was more affordable? My dog has high liver enzymes.?
-
Although both are used as supplements in liver dysfunction, S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) is not the same as milk thistle. SAMe is a molecule naturally made in the body, which helps in brain, liver, and other tissue function. Supplemental SAMe is thought to increase liver cell function in animals with decreased liver function. Milk thistle (silymarin) is thought to improve liver function by acting as an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agent, protecting the liver cells from toxins as well as increasing the amount of protein liver cells made. Milk thistle is commonly listed in products as Silybin A and B, which are extracts of silymarin. SAMe and milk thistle can be used together or alone. It would be important to discuss with your pet’s veterinarian in order to select the safest and most appropriate supplement for your pet. Thank you, VetRxDirect

i've do a research and i've found an article said not to give milk with SAMe for cat . Why??
-
There is not an apparent drug-food interaction with SAMe and milk. However, SAMe should be given on an empty stomach, at least one hour before feeding your cat, because food and other products, such as milk, may decrease the effectiveness of SAMe. This is because they may decrease the absorption of SAMe in the GI tract. You should be able to feed your cat milk after an hour of giving SAMe. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Is there a comparable liquid milk thistle extract for my dog. Many challenges to administering s-a caps and I'm an expert at med disguises. Good results with the product when successfully ingested.?
-
We are not aware of any liquid options for the milk thistle or SAMe supplements. You may want to check in with your dog's veterinarian on additional administration options or other supplements that may be easier to administer. Thank you, VetRxDirect
