Hello, do you know if this drug would be ok to give to a dog who is currently taking Vetmedin for a heart condition? And if he already has kidney and bladder stones, will this help? Thank you in advance?
-
This product contains potassium which may increase the risk of hyperkalemia, or high potassium levels. High potassium can lead to dangerous problems such as heart rhythm problems. If your dog has a heart condition, speak with your vet to determine which supplements are safe and effective for bladder stones

Yorkshire Terrier has calcium oxalate bladder stones (already had surgery once). His current PH is 5. Will this product raise of lower his PH? I thought it would raise his PH, which is what I have been told I want, but your description on this site says "Potassium Citrate is often given to LOWER urine ph in dogs and cats to prevent and reduce urinary stones". Is this correct? I am confused. Vet gave it to me to RAISE ph, not lower it. Please advise.?
-
This product is used to raise urinary pH to decrease the formation of calcium oxalate stones. This webpage in particular recently was corrected to say this. Previously, the product description mistakenly listed it as lowering pH, which was incorrect.

My 12 year old Shih-tsu is taking this twice a day. Sometimes he won't eat much in the morning so he might finish his dose at lunch time. I have to mix it with food so he will consume it. Is it safe to give him his second full dose at around 6:00 in the evening or is that too close to his first dose??
-
The recommended dose for dogs is 5 grams for every 10 lbs. of body weight per day. If your dog is not able to completely consume his meals, it may be appropriate to mix his morning dose in a smaller quantity of food or switch to the chewable tablet dosage form. You should talk with your dog's veterinarian regarding the appropriate dosing regimen for your dog.

My dog has been taking this for nearly a year. Loved it as a treat. All of a sudden he will no longer take the chewable pill. Any clue why??
-
Per the manufacturer’s information, potassium citrate plus cranberry chewable tablets have a roast beef and liver flavor that is palatable to most dogs and can be offered free choice or can be crumbled over your pet’s food at mealtime. As with humans, pets can also get too much potassium in their body which can be harmful; therefore it is important to monitor how much potassium your pet is getting and not use more than the recommended amount of this or any other product. Changes in appetite in a pet could be due to many causes. It would be important to discuss any changes in appetite, as well as any supplements or medications your pet is taking with your pet’s veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect
