MalOtic Ointment for Dogs and Cats
>Many dogs have infection-prone ears. If that’s the case with your pup, talk to your veterinarian about MalOtic. This potent mixture of three healing agents helps reduce pain, swelling, and itching due to ear infection. MalOtic is a corticosteroid that is often prescribed by veterinarians to clear up ear infections in dogs. Three active ingredients – gentamicin sulfate, betamethasone valerate, and clotrimazole – work together to reduce inflammation, itching, and pain in the ear. MalOtic can also help reduce ear wax production. If your dog also needs antimicrobials, MalOtic can be combined with them. This medication comes in two formulations: ear drops and ointment.
- Decreases inflammation, itching, and pain
- Helps reduce ear wax production
- Easy to apply topical treatment for dogs
- Choose ear drops or ointment
What you should know about MalOtic:
- Talk to your veterinarian before using this product.
- Follow dosing directions exactly - don’t give your pet more medication than directed and don’t skip doses.
- Read the label carefully for information about storage, possible side effects, and drug interactions.
Resistance is a major concern when giving antibiotics. Resistance occurs when bacteria survive and mutate and are then able to survive even after antibiotics are given. To help avoid any resistance, it is important to give antibiotics as they are prescribed for as long as they are prescribed even if your pet is looking and feeling better.

Successful Ear Infection Treatment: Methods and Cautions
From undisclosedComments about MalOtic OintmentI purchased this product after much research to successfully self-treat a yeast infection in my service animal's ear. EAR INFECTION TREATMENT: Yeast MATERIALS: Epi-Otic Advanced Ear Cleanser MalOtic Ointment METHOD: Cleansing; First fill the dog's infected ear(s) with the Epi-Otic Advanced Ear Cleanser wash to ensure that the ear canal has been cleared of most particulate matter, yeast spores and other detritus. Once the ear is nearly full of this pleasant smelling liquid I apply gentle pressure upon the soft tissue just below the ear opening in a circular motion, causing the canal walls to rub against one another with just enough friction to cleanse them and as well circulate the applied fluid throughout. There is no need to drain the ear of the solution as the dog will certainly shake most of it out. I then wait between one-half to one full hour for the remainder of the solution to evaporate. Then I apply the MalOtic Ointment medication, squeezing small amounts of the thick, white, greasy gel onto the walls of the ear canal, attempting especially to fill the smaller, less accessible crevasses. Once I am satisfied that the medication has been sufficiently distributed throughout I again, with the same aforementioned circular pressure upon the soft areas, distribute the medication throughout the ear canal. CAUTIONS: Because of both the possibility of an incomplete eradication of the yeast colony as well as the resistance acquired by surviving generations the cleansing and medicating should be done at least twice, the second application within a few days to a week of the first. The previously infected area should then be checked several times a week throughout the following month for an unlikely, but possible reinfection. If infection again occurs it is strongly suggested that you contact your Veterinarian for an thorough examination. I hope that this review is helpful. -
