Not Quite What I Needed
When I was deciding whether or not to order this, I asked if the tablets were coated or not. I received a response that they were not, so I ordered it, and lo and behold, they do have a pink coating on them. Since a 10mg tablet is way too much for a cat, I have to split the pills into quarters, and sometimes need to crush them and add water, and the coating does not allow for that.

The tiny tablets are a pain to split
From UndisclosedComments about Famotidine OTC 10mg, 60 TabletsI ordered two bottles of these pills. My dog needs 2.5 mg twice a day. The medication comes in 5 mg tablets. One bottle came with large tablets which are easy to split whereas the other bottle had tiny tablets which were very difficult to split. I would suggest NEVER sending the smaller tablets. I could not return them as I had opened the bottle. -

What are the other ingredients besides Famotidine? I'd like to know the fillers or excipients that are also in the pill. Thanks?
-
The over-the-counter (OTC) famotidine medication we're currently dispensing is from the manufacturer, Major. This is a human-labeled product with the inactive ingredients (excipients) present: carnauba wax, hypromellose, iron oxide red, iron oxide yellow, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polydextrose, polyethylene glycol, pregelatinized starch, talc, titanium dioxide, and triacetin. The manufacturer we carry may change depending on the availability and cost of the product.

What are the excipients, or other ingredients besides Famotidine? I'm concerned about strange reaction of the animal and I need to double check the other ingredients.?
-
If you look under the "Package Insert" tab on the product page, there is a link for the package label. That will tell you the inactive ingredients and other information regarding the medication. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My cat needs 2.5 mg twice a day. I use a pill splitter some get ruined account size. Problem, the cat that loved me is running, hiding, growling at me and generally hates to have me come near her now. Is it alright to grind up, place in favorite bisque? She usually finishes the whole bowl. I am not very good with that pill splitter either, some pieces are bigger and I always loose the last piece, crushed by machine.?

Famotidine, also known as Pepcid®, is used to reduce the amount of stomach acid produced. It can be used to prevent and treat stomach ulcers and reflux. Famotidine comes in an over-the-counter strength of 10mg, but it can also come in higher strengths that require a prescription. It is important to give the recommended amount of famotidine as prescribed and give it on an empty stomach if at all possible. Food will decrease its effectiveness. If your cat can not take famotidine on an empty stomach, give with food or a small treat to see if it helps. Commercially available famotidine tablets can be split or crushed but the powder will have a bitter taste. Typically, the powder dosage form will have a stronger taste than tablet does, as an intact tablet will often contain a coating. If your cat will not eat all of the food which contains the crushed famotidine tablet, you will not be able to determine how much of the dose was given. Please discuss with your veterinarian about the best choice for your cat in order to get the optimal treatment outcome. Thank you, VetRxDirect

can I give famotidine if my dog will take right after he throws up??
-
Famotidine is a histamine H2 antagonist that works by inhibiting gastric acid secretion making the stomach less acidic. It is often used to treat ulcers and gastric reflux in dogs. This medication can be given without regard to food and at any time during the day, but is most effective if given before the first meal of the day. This medication is not intended to treat or prevent your dog from vomiting. Talk with your veterinarian about the best treatment option if your dog is having gastrointestinal problems. Thank you, VetRxDirect

What is the difference between Famotidine OTC and Omeprazole??
-
Famotidine and omeprazole are both available over-the-counter or by prescription and are used in the management of gastric ulcers and to reduce the production of gastric acid in a variety of animals. Famotidine is a member of the H2 receptor blocker (antagonist) class of medications, while omeprazole is a member of the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) class of medications. As a result, each of the medications work in a different manner to achieve similar results. It is recommended that you contact your veterinarian to determine which medication class is best for the treatment of your animal. Thank you, VetRxDirect
