Q & A

My indoor cat has been exhibiting a constant ear infection of some sort, shakes her head from side to side and I can hear what sounds like liquid in her ear, she scratches it constantly & at times makes her ear go somewhat flat. Is it okay to try and put a few drops of the EnteDerm ointment that I had prescribed for my dog in her ear???
-
EnteDerm ointment is commonly used in cats and dogs; however, you should consult with your veterinarian before using this product to make sure it is appropriate for your cat since this medication needs a prescription. Using an antibacterial/antifungal medication when an infection is not present can increase risk for infection in the future.
Verified Answer -
Shaking from side to side and hearing liquid is an immediate vet visit. you want to treat infections quickly, just like in humans. Not treating early can leave your car in pain, as the situations worsens, so does your vet bill.

Can I use EnteDerm on an eighteen week old kitten? I have some ointment, still in date, from a older cat that had the same "cat acne" problem as my kitten.?
-
Please contact your cat's veterinarian regarding the "cat acne" condition. The veterinarian may like to take a closer look at your cat's specific condition and may have different recommendations for treatment depending on what he/or she observes and the age of your kitten.

I have this product. When I put in on her anal area where she is really inflamed she acts as if it stings. Does this have any ingredients that should cause this reaction? Should we use an anti-itch spry before we apply it??

One of the potential side effects of EnterDerm Ointment is local irritation or redness. The ingredients include antibiotics nystatin, thiostrepton, neomycin, and the steroid triamcinolone as the active ingredients in a polyethylene mineral oil gel base. My Vet prescribed EnteDerm for an infection in my dog's ear. I used it for 4 days as prescribed, it appears to have treated the ear infection but it seems he has some hearing loss since i completed treatment. is this temporary and is there anything i can do to restore his hearing? thank you.?
-
EnteDerm Ointment contains nystatin, neomycin sulfate, thiostrepton, and triamcinolone acetonide. These ingredients are used to treat inflammation and pruritus, as well as bacterial and fungal infections. It has been reported that when corticosteroids such as triamcinolone acetonide are administered into the ear, temporary hearing loss may occur. However, restoration of the pet's hearing usually occurs upon discontinuation of the drug. Please consult your pet's veterinarian if his hearing does not improve. Thank you, VetRxDirect
