Q & A
-
I have 2 unopened boxes of Clavamox with expiration dates 18 and 24 months ago. Will they still be effective? Or maybe a better question would be, how much does effectiveness diminish over time? (Completely made up example: effectiveness diminishes 20% every 6 months after expire date)?
-
Once the expiration date has passed there is no guarantee that the medicine will be safe and effective. The manufacturer does not provide data regarding the rate of drug degradation after the expiration date. It is not recommended to use expired medications due to the potential health risks.

What if I accidentally leave it out of the fridge once I put the water in it? I left it out for 11 hours is it still safe to give to my dog and the keep in fridge??
-
After reconstituted with water, the suspension is stable at room temperature for 48 hours. Therefore, if the medication was left out for 11 hours it is still safe to give to your dog. Continue to keep it in the fridge for the remaining duration of treatment. If you have further questions or concerns please contact your veterinarian.

any side effects for taking 15 ml for a small dog 11 pounds?
-
Adverse effects can occur regardless of the weight of the animal receiving treatment. Clavamox is generally well tolerated with few adverse effects. If your dog has an allergy to this medication he or she may experience swelling or difficulty breathing, if this occurs, stop the medication and contact your veterinarian. Allergic reactions are rare. Some more common adverse effects include loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrhea. If your dog experiences these, try administering Clavamox with food to settle the stomach. It is important to continue giving this medication until it is gone, even if your dog seems to be feeling better. If you are concerned that your dog is experiencing adverse effects, please contact your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Can I give this product to my pit bull/ terrier if she may be pregnant??
-
Taking medications into account is always important when considering pregnancy in animals. This question has several parts to it. It depends how long the pet has been taking the Clavamox and if the dog is still taking the medication. Animal studies for Clavamox have not yet demonstrated risk to the fetus and further research is needed. Also, it is important to look at all of their medications when trying to plan a pregnancy. In this situation it is ideal to contact your dog's veterinarian and provide them with all of the pet's medications and when you are intending for the dog to become pregnant. Thank you, VetRxDirect

what mg would you recommend for an 8 lb. dog??
-
The recommended dosage in dogs by the manufacturer is 6.25mg per pound of body weight twice daily. A dose for an 8-pound dog is around 50 mg twice daily and the duration of use will depend on the type and severity of the infection. Certain infections will require higher doses than the recommended amount and this will be determined and monitored by your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect
