Who rescued whom?
Cisapride (aka Propulsid) is life-saving medicine for GI care. We use this medicine twice daily for our young cat, Panda, with megacolon secondary to healed complex fractures of the pelvis with complex neurologic injury after being run over by a car as a young kitten. When we adopted him, we immediately and successfully started Cisapride courtesy of our vet, aiding his quality of life immeasurably. It is true: we may have adopted Panda, however, Panda rescued us and while he may be less than enthusiastic about the taste, he takes his medicine with little protest from his human "daddy" whom he adores.

Comes out of Suspension before it should
I purchased product the end of april...stored as directed,and shook as directed.After approx. 6 weeks, -producted had seperated to the point that there was a lump of it in the bottom of the bottle.
I can't recommend ordering over 6 weeks worth at a time, which may throw out the free shipping.

Cisapride is a lifesaver for my cat.

The only thing that helps him and prevents frequent vet visits and huge vet bills is miralax with combination of Cisapride. I buy the suspension which must taste pretty good because my cat has no problem taking it. Vetrxdirect refills prescriptions super fast and saved me quite a bit in comparison to buying it from the vet. Very happy I found them. -

Poorly Compounded
From undisclosedComments about Cisapride Oral Suspension (Compounded)We have been giving our cat Cisapride (fish) for about a year. It has worked and he has loved it - we call it his "treat juice". Always ordered it directly from our vet but the cost has been a problem so I found it cheaper at VetRxDirect. This order was definitely compounded differently because our cat hates it. It is very oily and the solids separate so we have to do more than just "shake well" before we give it to him. I don't know what VetRxDirect did with this Cisapride, but it is definitely not the same formulation. We are very disappointed. -

However the syringe is not long enough to reach the bottom of the bottle. Further there is no instructions on the bottle that says you have to shake it before use. It is only after the bottle settles that you see the separation of the compound components. Further, (although this is not about the medication), the shipping method via the post office was not up to par. The post office left the meds on the porch, in the sun, and never knocked on the door to let me know they had arrived. The post office is known not to update their tracking service on a timely basis so you not are aware of when it will arrive. And, since cat treats were in the package, the box was filled with 50 or more ants by the time I got it. I had to throw out the treats.

Can Cisapride suspension be mixed with wet cat food??

The dose of cisapride in cats can vary based on individual cat and severity of condition. Ideally, cisapride should be given 15-30 minutes before food, but it can be administered with food if the cat vomits or acts sick after dosing. Contact your veterinarian if vomiting continues. Your veterinarian may recommend to mix Cisapride Suspension (Compounded) with food to facilitate dosing. If this is recommended, mix the measured dose of cisapride with a small amount of food at the beginning of the meal to ensure the entire dose is consumed, before providing the rest of the meal portion. It would not be recommended to pre-mix, rather mix immediately before feeding.

Yes, it is possible to give your cat too much Cisapride. If overdose occurs the most common adverse effects seen in dogs and cats are diarrhea, lethargy, ataxia, hypersalivation, muscle fasciculations, agitation, abnormal behavior, hyperthermia, and possibly seizures. Contact your veterinarian if you believe an overdose has occurred.

Is the cisapride formula available in a water-based liquid chicken flavored formula?

Compounded Cisapride suspension is only made with a corn oil base because a water based product would require refrigeration. Since the water-based formula must be refrigerated and has a shorter shelf life than the oil-based formula, VetRxDirect only compounds an oil-based cisapride suspension in order to maintain a longer shelf-life for our customers.
