What is the contraindications for Vigamox in cats? Why wouldn't a vet prescribe this eye infection med??
-
Vigamox may be used in cats after veterinarian prescription authorization. One caution for the use of Vigamox in cats is that there is a risk of potential retinal toxicity, which can result in blindness. This is a potential reaction that could occur in domestic cats with the use of any of the fluoroquinolone antibiotics, including Vigamox. Although at this time there are no reports of retinal toxicity in cats due to Vigamox (the evidence that exists is for humans). Therefore, it is best to check with your cat's veterinarian to get their recommendations on the use of Vigamox in cats.
