Tri-otic Ointment for Dogs
For powerful treatment of canine ear infections at a budget-friendly price, ask your veterinarian for Tri-otic ointment, the generic form of Otomax. This soothing cream quickly relieves your dog’s painful, swollen, and itchy ears.
- Treats ear infections due to bacteria and yeast
- Reduces inflammation, pain, and itching
- Also helps reduce ear wax production
Powerful Tri-otic ointment is effective because it blends three antimicrobials into one medication for treating ear infections. This combination of gentamicin sulfate, betamethasone valerate and clotrimazole work together to stop bacteria and yeast, which are the source of infections, while soothing the symptoms including pain, swelling, and annoying itching.
What you should know about Tri-otic ointment for dogs:
- You may need to clean and dry your dog’s ears before applying this medication.
- Follow dosing directions exactly - don’t give your dog more medication than directed and don’t skip doses.
- Read the label carefully for information about storage, possible side effects, and drug interactions.

It works!
From Chicago, IL, USAComments about Tri-Otic OintmentThis ointment cured the ear infections in my pug's ears. Easy to apply with the thin tube and thin applicator. The ointment tends to leak out of the ear a bit when your dog shakes his/her head. This will make the fur surrounding the ear look wet and flat. However, this is a temporary condition.

Tri-Otic has been put of stock for over SIX months now. What is the problem??
-
I’m sorry that we don’t have the product you need. Some products go out of stock for a variety of reasons. For example, a medication may be in short supply, or we simply may no longer be able to get it from our distributors. Speak to your veterinarian about alternatives to Tri-Otic as there are products that may be recommended in its place.

my dog was treated for ear infection with tri-oitic ointment does this cause loss of hearing. He is unable to hear ever since he has been treated with this.?
-
According to the manufacturer, the use of tri-otic ointment has been associated with deafness or partial hearing loss in a small number of sensitive dogs (eg. older dogs). The hearing deficit is usually temporary. If hearing dysfunction is noted during the course of treatment, discontinue use of tri-otic ointment immediately and flush the ear canal thoroughly with a non-ototoxic solution. Please contact your veterinarian to further assess your dog's hearing loss.

My 6yo Lab mix is experiencing some hearing loss after using product for approx 2 days. Took him to emergency vet today and they said to discontinue and switched him to an oral anti fungal; did not want to flush his ears as they saw a some "goop" near eardrum. His demeanor is definitely different, seems a little confuses, needy/attention seeking, possibly hallucinating (intensely staring at same spot).

My dog was first prescribed VetOne Gentizol but I ran out recently. The vet now prescribed Tri-Otic Ointment with new instructions. Before it was 3 drops on each ear twice a day for two weeks and now with Tri-Otic it's 5 drops on each ear, twice daily, for 10 days. Why more drops?! Is it because its a different medication. I'm so confused. The vet says to follow the instructions.?

These products both have the same active ingredients and the same concentrations of these ingredients. Refer to your veterinarian for any questions regarding the change in dosing.

What is the difference between the "bottle" and the "tube"? Are they both the same type of ointment, or is one an ointment (tube) the other a liquid (bottle)? Please advise, Mina?
-
The manufacturer confirmed that there is no difference between the Tri-Otic dispensed in the bottle or the tube. The choice is based on owner and veterinarian preference on administering Tri-Otic Ointment from a plastic bottle with applicator or a metal tube with applicator. Your pet's veterinarian can help you decide on the best variation for this product.

Can I use it if it has expired.....it may not be as effective, but will not go bad????? ?
-
Tri-Otic is an ear ointment with three active ingredients, clotrimazole (antifungal), gentamicin (antibiotic), and betamethasone (corticosteroid). VetRxDirect does not recommend using any medication past the manufacturer's stated expiration date. Using an inferior, expired medication can lead to superinfections and antimicrobial resistance. Contact your veterinarian if you think your pet may have an ear infection. Thank you, VetRxDirect
