If your dog has hypothyroidism, or low thyroid hormone levels, it can require ongoing treatment. ThyroVet is a low-cost thyroid replacement hormone that is as effective as brand name medications but can save you money over the long term. This prescription medication’s active ingredient, levothyroixine sodium, replaces the hormones your dog produces naturally and can help relieve some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism including hair loss, weight gain, and lethargy. ThyroVet comes in nine different strengths so your veterinarian can tailor the dosage level to your pet’s specific needs. Talk your veterinarian about whether ThyroVet is right for your dog. Q & A
-
Will this product work in place of Levocrine for my dog who is having seizures ?.?
-
Thyrovet and Levocrine are both levothyroxine which is used to treat hypothyroidism. Switching from Levocrine to ThyroVet should only be done under the supervision of your pet's veterinarian. This needs to be done to ensure the medication is working appropriately in your pet. Changing manufacturers can alter thyroid levels in your pet and since seizures have been reported rarely after starting levothyroxine therapy we recommend consulting your pet's veterinarian before switching the medication.

is ThyroVet Levothyroxine the exact same as Soloxine??
-
There are many brand names of the drug levothyroxine in tablet form. Along with ThyroVet and Soloxine, we also have ThyroKare available. There is currently a shortage of Soloxine, so these other brand names would be acceptable substitutes. Please talk with your dog's veterinarian for more information. Thank you.

My dog is on Thyrovet. Prior to meds, she was quite ill and lost about 12 pounds. She was not fat before. Antibiotics took care of the infection that made her sick and loose the weight. What can I do to get weight back on her so she looks healthy??
-
While your pet’s infection may have been the cause of her weight loss when she was sick, her Thyrovet therapy may also be preventing her from gaining weight. Thyrovet is a thyroid hormone replacement product that has many effects in your pet’s body including an increase in her fat, protein and carbohydrate metabolism. This may be causing her to maintain her current low weight or even lose weight. This medication is important for her health and we recommend you consult your veterinarian prior to discontinuing or changing any medications. Your veterinarian may also be able to recommend a specific diet for your pet to help her with weight gain.
