Ranitidine Tablets (OTC)
Ranitidine is a medication used to reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach. Too much acid production can lead to indigestion, vomiting, and the formation of stomach ulcers. This medication is used to treat stomach ulcers and to prevent further damage to the lining of the stomach or the gastrointestinal tract.
Ranitidine acts in another way by helping decrease the time it takes to empty the stomach. It acts as a prokinetic agent that may be especially helpful to increase the movement of the contents in the colon of cats.
In order to ensure maximum efficacy, it is important to not miss doses. Symptoms may reappear if doses are missed. If you miss giving your pet the dose, give it to your pet as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your normal schedule.
This over-the-counter strength of ranitidine is a good first option when trying to help your pet with indigestion. Other prescription products of ranitidine are available which have an increased strength to help your pet if increased indigestion were to occur.

Q & A

I recently ordered and have received this product for my cat. What is the dosage for a 14 pound cat? The dosing instructions with the product are for adults and children over 12.?

Ranitidine is a histamine H2 antagonist that works by inhibiting gastric acid secretion making the stomach less acidic. The recommended dosing for cats is 3.5 mg/kg twice daily. Your cat weighs about 6.4 kg, making the ranitidine dose about 22 mg twice daily. This dose doesn't taking into account health issues your cat may have or other medications they are taking. Always talk with your veterinarian before starting any new medication in your cat and what the correct dose is for them. Thank you, VetRxDirect
