What is the PredniSONE Suspension for Dogs?
- PrednisoLONE and PredniSONE are two prescription glucocorticoid steroid medications that are commonly confused.
- PredniSONE is converted to the active component PrednisoLONE by the liver.
- PredniSONE is often used to treat inflammation, to suppress the immune system, to replace or supplement adrenal insufficient animals, or to inhibit the growth or spread of tumors.
- Horses, cats, and pets with liver failure will need to be given PrednisoLONE instead of PredniSONE to achieve the desired treatment because they are unable to convert PredniSONE efficiently to PrednisoLONE.
- In order to have the best treatment possible for you cat, PrednisoLONE should be considered. Cats cannot convert PredniSONE completely to PrednisoLONE, so only part of the dose is able to exert its effect.
- The oral suspension is a flavored liquid that may be easier to dose than tablets.
Why do dogs use PredniSONE?
- PredniSONE may be prescribed to treat hypoadrenocorticism (Addison's disease).
- PredniSONE may also be prescribed to reduce inflammation, suppress the immune system, or as an anticancer agent.
What else should I know about PredniSONE?
- Flavored oral suspension is a liquid that may be easier to dose than tablets.
- The suspension is oil-based and should be stored at room temperature. It does not need to be refrigerated.
What problems could my dog have with PredniSONE?
- When using PredniSONE, veterinarians want to use the least amount of medication needed to effectively treat your pet to reduce the side effects.
- PredniSONE has many side effects. Side effects are more likely with long term use and higher doses.
- The most common side effects of PredniSONE are increased appetite, thirst, and need to urinate.
- Dogs may have serious side effects such as stomach or intestinal ulcers, perforation, or bleeding. If your dog stops eating, or you notice signs such as high fever, black, tarry stools, or bloody vomit, contact your veterinarian immediately.
How do you use PredniSONE?
- PredniSONE should be given with food. Follow your veterinarian's directions.
- Do not stop giving PredniSONE without talking to your veterinarian as serious side effects may result.
What is in PredniSONE?
- PredniSONE is a glucocorticoid or hormone that breaks down fats, carbohydrates, and proteins so that they can be used to fuel the body in times of stress.
- PredniSONE is converted to the active component PrednisoLONE by the liver.
Will I get what I see in the picture?
- This PredniSONE Suspension is a compounded medication. The ingredients will be mixed specially for your dog or cat in our pharmacy.

From undisclosedComments about PredniSONE Suspension (Compounded)I cannot give my 14 year old cat pills. Liquid isn't easy, but way better than fighting with pill shooters! -
Still distasteful to my cat, but easier to get in than pills
From undisclosedComments about PredniSONE Suspension (Compounded)My cat hates his prednisolone, no matter what I try to hide it in. He is a little devil, so trying to get it in his mouth is impossible. He will not lick this up, he can still taste the medicine, but at least with the suspension, I can get it near his mouth and he is forced to lick the rest off. -
I heard it's a good one
From Dover, NJComments about PredniSONE Suspension (Compounded)Hoping it helps on my cat skin. So far i dont see any improvement. -
DO NOT BUY
From VAComments about PredniSONE Suspension (Compounded)My cat has Pemphigus and is prescribed this medicine to treat it. The medicine we received from the vet got him under control so we ordered this for convenience when it ran out. Within days of using this medicine his symptoms came back in full force. Went back to the vet's medicine and got him back under control, but it was obvious this medicine did not work at all. It appears to just be mashed up pills in a saline solution. DO NOT BUY. -
I would use this vendor again!

I am wondering if there are any prednisone medicine for cats? Thanks.?
-
Shira, Prednisolone would be recommended for cats in place of prednisone. Prednisone is normally metabolized to the active drug prednisolone, however cats have a difficult time metabolizing prednisone, so prednisolone would be preferred. Cats also have difficulty absorbing prednisone into their bodies. Thank you, VetRxDirect

How much Liquid prednisone should a cat take??
-
Skillet, The dosing of prednisone is based on the type of diagnosis, the weight or state of your cat, the length of therapy and other factors. It is best to contact your cat's veterinarian about which dose would be appropriate. Prednisone and prednisolone may be prescribed interchangeably to treat similar disorders. Though it is important to note that cats are unable to utilize prednisone as effectively as prednisolone. This is due to a combination of two possible issues: a decreased absorption of prednisone in the body as well as the decreased ability for a cats to utilize prednisolone. Thank you, VetRxDirect
