Potassium Bromide Capsules
From Tamarac, FL, USAComments about Potassium Bromide Capsules (Compounded)My dog has been on the potassium bromide capsules along with another medication for her seizures. Since being on the combination, she still has seizures but they are much less frequent and less intense. I am very happy with the compounding. -
Quick efficient service!
From South CarolinaComments about Potassium Bromide Capsules (Compounded)I have a seizure dog who has been on Pot Bromide and Phen Barb for years. Until finding VetRxDirect I had to get the Pot Bromide through a local pharmacy in liquid form and the cost was increasing greatly. With the compounded capsule, I am more confident that my baby is getting the correct dosage. He is now transitioning off of the Phen Barb and on to Zonisamide. The prices are excellent, but more importantly the prescriptions arrive very quickly giving me one less thing to worry about as I care for my special needs pet. -

Why is the price double what it was 2 months ago??
-
This specialty medication is compounded by hand by skilled VetRxDirect pharmacy technicians following strict regulations to keep your pet safe. Prices have also gone up due to new federal regulations that went into effect for compounding pharmacies and regular pharmacies requiring more expensive processing and protective equipment. VetRxDirect also has upgraded facilities and compounding laboratories to ensure continued quality compounds. At this time, February 2020, a minimum amount per compounded medication of $49.99 is required. When an amount less than the minimum is purchased the difference will be added to your invoice. Please contact customer service at [email protected] with further questions.

My dog takes 1500 mg per day. Can you make a pill that size? If so how much would it cost??
-
VetRxDirect does not have a capsule size large enough to accommodate 1500mg of Potassium Bromide per capsule. VetRxDirect does compound a 750mg Potassium Bromide capsule in which your dog would be able to take two capsules daily to obtain the required dose. Speak with your veterinarian to determine if this would be appropriate for your pet.

How large would a 150mg capsule be? Would a 12lb dog be able to get it down? how does the size compare to an amoxicillin 250mg capsule??
-
For 150mg dose, we use a capsule that is 0.23 inch in outer diameter and 0.63 inch in height. Amoxicillin 250mg is one size bigger than potassium bromide 150mg capsule.

We were given potassium bromide in a liquid form by our vet. The instructions say to give 2.5 cc per day. I'd like to start the capsules to ensure our little guy gets a more consistent dose. What is the equivalent to 2.5 cc in mG??
-
You will have to verify the strength of the liquid provided by your veterinarian before determining the milligram equivalent of potassium bromide. As an example, if you were given the KBroVet Oral Solution by PRN Pharmaceuticals, this product comes in a 250mg/ml concentration. A dose of 2.5cc of the KBroVet Oral Solution, would be equivalent to 625mg of potassium bromide. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Do these capsules have Any sort of flavoring? My dog has food allergies so they need to be unflavored.?
-
Tiffany, Our compounded capsules do not contain any flavoring so we recommend using food to give the medication if your dog is unable to take the capsule by itself. Thank you, VetRxDirect

presently my dog is getting 2 cc of PB daily. The existing PB is 500mg/mi 120cccan you tell me what pill would be equal to that dose??
-
Jan, If your dog's dose is 2cc of potassium bromide at a strength of 500mg/mL, then the number of milligrams your dog is receiving daily is 1000. We do compound capsules in that strength, or if you are looking for a chewable tablet, that is commerically available in a 500mg strength (necessitating giving 2 tablets per dose). If you have trouble getting your dog to take the liquid, you may want to check with your dog's veterinarian about different adminstration methods such as the capsules or tablets. Thank you, VetRxDirect
