- Otomax contains gentamicin sulfate, betamethasone valerate, and clotrimazole - an antibiotoc, an anti-inflammatory steroid, and an antifungal.
- Otomax works by killing infection causing bacteria and yeast in the ear and reducing the swelling and redness often associated with ear infections.
Why is Otomax used for cats and dogs?
- If your dog or cat has been diagnosed with otitis externa or an ear infection, your veterinarian may prescribe a suspension such as Otomax.
- Otomax kills the yeast and bacteria causing the infection and has a steroid to treat swelling and redness.
What else should I know about Otomax?
- Otomax may also be used to treat superficial skin infections.
- Dispose of the Otomax according to local regulations. Do not pour it down the drain.
What problems could my dog or cat have with Otomax?
- Do not allow the suspension to get into your pet's eyes.
- Do not use in dogs with damaged ear drums.
- Your pet may experience some redness or discomfort at the application site.
- Contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice the infection is not healing or is getting worse.
- Contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, sudden hearing loss, increasingly worse ear pain, head tilt, walking in circles, mouth sores, increased thirst, frequent urination, or worsening skin and hair issues at the application site.
How do you use Otomax?
- Shake well before use.
- Prevent your dog or cat and other animals from licking or grooming the treated ears for at least 20 to 30 minutes after application.
- Wear gloves or wash your hands immediately after handling the medication.

Is it important for my dog or cat to finish all of the Otomax?

we use ottomax for our sheepadoodle"s ears (they are very hairy and yes we pluck them as required), every time we need a prescription our vet wants us to make an appointment so we end up with a $150.00 bill plus the cost of the prescription, only one vet close to us. do you sell a non-prescription product that we can order. The last six times she has been examine (over 2 yrs), we are told the same thing yeast infection. Suggestions??
-
Otomax is a powerful combination of gentamicin sulfate, betamethasone valerate, and clotrimazole which does require a prescription from your veterinarian. It would be best to consult with your veterinarian if there is another option to help minimize or decrease the likelihood of recurring yeast infection in your dog’s ear.

How many 5 drop doses are in a 15 G tube of Otomax ointment?
-
The Otomax otic ointment has about 450 drops per 15 gram tube. This number is an approximation and will depend on the size of drops administered. The 15 gram tube should provide about 90 doses if you are administering 5 drops to one ear. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My vet wont allow me to buy from anywhere else.. any suggestions??
-
Jessie, If your veterinarian will provide you with a written prescription, you would be able to mail that to us and we can fill from that. Otherwise the only other options are to get an OTC item that does not require a prescription or to maybe find another vet that would allow you to buy from somewhere else. Thank you, VetRxDirect
