Saved my cats life
Honestly, like nsaids in humans, Onsior does carry some risks. However, for my immune-suppressed cat, it's a literal life saver. She often has fever of unknown origin, sometimes as high as 106+. Intravenous fluids, other medications, nothing else touches her fever. Cats can decline very quickly, and with high fever they often will not eat or drink, as is the case with my cat. Onsior is the only medication that breaks her fever, and makes her feel better. She is able to eat and drink until she is strong enough to make it through the episode. Literal life saver for us.

not good news
Took my 12 yr. old cat to vet today with swollen left neck. His organs all felt good. He is diabetic & has shots 2x a day. He prescribed the 3 tablet Onsior & Clavamox. He had the first pill @ 11:30 a.m. At 9:30 p.m., he had a violent seizure & I thought I was going to lose him. He finally settled down but has not gotten up & walked yet. He has never had a seizure before..I will call the vet tomorrow but I will not be giving him the other 2 pills. I feel that it is the cause, as it is one of the "adverse" reactions. He is a large, 16 # cat, so hopefully, he will pull through.

Terrible to deal with
From PennsylvaniaComments about Onsior (robenacoxib)I would give zero stars if possible! Absolutely no effort to make sure they got the vet approval for the medicine. I don't even understand how you can operate this way. -

How many times a year can you give your cat the 3 day dosage??
-
Under the guidance of a veterinarian, Onisor may be used in an extra-label manner (not consistent with manufacturer labeled directions), based on the individual needs of your cat. There is no data to set a maximum number courses prescribed per year. Please consult your veterinarian regarding Onsior as they will have the most comprehensive medical history for your cat.

side effects for onsior robenacoxib for cats?
-
The most common side effects noted with Onsior are vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, dark or tarry stools, increased water consumption, and increased urination. If any of these persist or happen multiple times per day, you should stop the medication and contact your veterinarian immediately. This medication is only approved by the FDA in cats for short term use (6 days or less), however if your cat is on this medication long term, they should be regularly monitored for any of these side effects. Is Onsior compatible in diabetic patients? Primarily, Prozinc? Thanks!?
-
Robenacoxib (Onsior) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for pain management in cats. Currently there is no data stating that onsior cannot be used in diabetic cats. There is also no known drug interactions between onsior and prozinc insulin. Talk with your veterinarian to determine if Onsior is the best treatment option for your cat. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Side effects? After giving first dose, my kitten passed out (fell asleep & doesn't want to wake up like a teenager). Is that normal for her to fall asleep so heavily? I'm assuming just from exhaustion from being in pain, just want to double check. ?
-
I would read the package insert with the RX information for side effects. Never take someone's word on a subject because not all cats react the same to a prescription. (The link below is identical to my insert that I received from my vet.) Renal failure is always a risk with pain relievers and cats. But on the brighter side, My cat had an injury and our vet prescribed this for his pain, and it is such a low dose that the weight of my cat was able to handle it. I don't know about a kitten. I do believe it helped with my cats inflammation and pain that he was having, because he did show improvements after taking it. Getting up, moving around more. I would 100% recommend this product for people like me with older animals. My only complaint is that the vet sticker they gave me does not say how long it takes to expire. Its expiration is blank. So I'm hopeful that because they are in sealed foil pill pockets that they would last the normal shelf life of a human medicine. But anyone with an accurate answer feel free to respond. I am very glad to find this same medicine, which works, without the huge vet bill. https://vetrxdirect.naccvp.com/index.php?u=country&p=msds&prodnum=1131031&id=1131031&m=product_basic_view

Rosey, Onsior (robenacoxib) has the potential for causing lethargy or decreased activity while on the medication. Drowsiness or dizziness is not noted as a potential adverse effect. If the pain has hindered your cat’s ability to fall asleep then this pain-relieving medication may help your pet sleep. If drowsiness or decreased activity persists please follow up with your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Can a cat die from this drug??
-
Pamela, We are sorry to hear about your cat. Onsior is a potent NSAID and is labeled specifically for the relief of pain during and after surgery or other painful procedures, for a maximum of three days. Onsior can cause side effects that could lead to death in a cat. This is usually due to an underlying disease which may or may not have been previously diagnosed by your pet's veterinarian. Take care, VetRxDirect
