From undisclosedComments about Blue Buffalo KS Kidney Support for DogsMy 14 yr old Cairn Terrier was diagnosed with mild kidney failure, my Vet recommend a low protein kidney diet. Blue happen to make this product and I started my Max on it. He is a very picky eater but he transitioned to this food with no problem. I mix a little of the wet food with the dry which has worked out well. Found that Vet RX Direct was the best price as it twice as much as regular dog food.

KD is for dogs with kidney disease and should have been recommended by your veterinarian based on tests which evaluate kidney function and other blood values. Many but not all senior dogs have reduced kidney function; my dog Max was 15 1/2 before he started needing to be shifted to this diet. There are Senior diets for dogs that are higher in protein than KD and lower in fat which would be recommended for senior dogs that have normal kidney values but tend towards the chubbier side. They are also usually fortified with omega-3s, glucosamine, and chondroitin. All older dogs should be regularly evaluated by a vet because many diseases of old age can be significantly slowed if caught early allowing you more good years with your pet.
