Mitotane Compounded Capsules for Dogs
Dogs with Cushing’s Disease, or hyperadrenocorticism, can suffer from hair loss, increased appetite, distended abdomens, and other more serious conditions. The disease can be regulated with Mitotane, which helps reduce the excess hormones produced in the adrenal gland. This medication is also prescribed to treat adrenal tumors.
- Eases the symptoms of Cushing’s Disease in dogs
- Effective against some types of adrenal tumors
- Tablets compounded to your dog’s exact dosing needs
Veterinarians prescribe proven-effective Mitotane for dogs with adrenal gland problems. This medication suppresses the production of corticosteroid hormones in the dog’s malfunctioning adrenal gland. Q & A

My dog takes Mitotane capsules for Cushing's. He suddenly refuses to take them after taking them for over 7 years, no matter what I try to hide them in. Can I sprinkle the contents of the capsule in his food or is this dangerous??
-
Due to Mitotane being a hazardous chemical it would not be recommended to open the capsules due to unnecessary exposure to the contents. Please consult with your veterinarian to discuss administration options for your pet.

My dog takes 500mg of lysodren 3x/week. Is this capsule the equivalent of 500mg??
-
VetRxDirect compounds mitotane capsules in multiple strengths ranging from 75 mg to 400 mg. The 500 mg tablets of mitotane are only dispensed as the Lysodren brand; which is also available through VetRxDirect. We recommend consulting your veterinarian before switching strengths and brands of medications.

My dog currently has prescription for 25ml of Mitotane oil. He takes 1ml 3x per week. I'm wondering if this product is the same just in pill form? He is. 13 yr old 5lb yorkie. Will I need to have my vet change the Rx if this is the same product in a different form? What is the comparable dosage in pill form??
-
You will need to contact your veterinarian for the strength of your current mitotane oil and what strength of capsule is comparable. We have a variety of compounded strengths to tailor to your pet's drug therapy needs. We also have Lysodren which are 500 mg mitotane tablets. Any changes to your pets current therapy must be closely monitored by your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect
