Do you offer pill split services? ie 250mg tabs were prescribed as giving 1/4 tab every 12 hours. Do you offer services to split the 250mg tabs into fourths??
-
Unfortunately, we do not split tablets prior to sending prescriptions out. Cutting tablets into small sizes can be difficult, but it is recommended to either purchase a pill splitter or find a pet pharmacy that is able to split tablets for you. We do have a pill splitter available for purchase from our website or you can find one at a local drug store.

My cat has been taking and is prescribed 50 mg 1/2 tab twice daily. Why don't you offer this lower mg? I'd like to order from an online pet med store, but cannot find this particular med. I have a prescription for 50 mg.?
-
Because there are currently no vet-labeled metronidazole medications, human-labeled metronidazole is prescribed extra-label by veterinarians to treat types of infections and parasites in animals. The lowest strength available is 250 mg tablets. Compounded metronidazole suspension is offered in lower doses, including 50mg, and is available through VetRxDirect. Please visit our website or call our pharmacy for more information.

will this kill flat worms?
-
Bert, Flatworm describes a broad class of worms; including tapeworms. Metronidazole will likely not be effective against flatworms because this drug is primarily used to treat bacterial and protozoa-type infections. We recommend contacting your pet’s veterinarian to see what he or she recommends. The veterinarian may want to examine your pet to identify the exact type of worm your pet has to determine the appropriate therapy. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My dog has been on metronidazole 250mg for five days and her stools are still on the very soft side. Is this normal? She also has elevated liver enzymes and was taken off S Adenosyl thinnking that that was causing the diarrhea. Any other ideas??
-
Angel29, If your dog had diarrhea prior to metronidazole therapy and the loose stools have not improved or getting worse contact your veterinarian. Common adverse effects with metronidazole treatment in dogs are lethargy, weakness, vomiting, and diarrhea. Unfortunately, without knowing your pet’s past medical history and doctor assessment I’m unable to provide specific advice regarding your pet’s infection. Follow up with your veterinarian to further discuss your dog’s drug therapy and diagnosis. Thank you, VetRxDirect
