What is K-CIT-V (potassium citrate) for Dogs and Cats?
- K-Cit-V is a potassium citrate supplement for dogs to adjust their urinary pH.
- Potassium Citrate is often given to lower urine pH in dogs and cats to prevent and reduce urinary stones.
- High levels of uric acid or calcium in the urine can form crystals or stones in the kidneys or bladder, which can be a painful condition.
- As these stones move through pet’s system they can cause pain, nausea, and other side effects.
- Potassium citrate is also used to supplement low potassium levels to treat hypokalemia and reduce elevated levels of acid in the body to treat metabolic acidosis.
- Bladder stones are common in dogs and cats that have recurrent urinary tract infections.
- Cranberry also helps promote urinary tract health.
Why do cats and dogs use K-CIT-V?
- If your pet is prone to urinary stones or other conditions, your veterinarian may recommend an over-the-counter supplement like K-CIT-V.
- When the pH in your pet’s urine becomes imbalanced, it can cause crystals to form which leads to bladder stones.
- Diet issues, dehydration, and even certain breed types can increase the chances your dog or cat may suffer from this painful condition.
- Potassium Citrate can help lower the pH in urine and help reduce the formation of painful bladder stones.
What else should I know about K-CIT-V?
- Chewable tablets are easy to dose.
- Store at room temperature.
What problems could my dog or cat have with K-CIT-V?
- Do not give K-CIT-V to pets who may have high potassium levels due to severe renal or adrenal insufficiency.
- Discontinue use is stomach upset occurs.
How do you use K-CIT-V?
- Give as directed by your veterinarian.
- Potassium Citrate may be given with food or mixed into food. Follow your veterinarian's directions.
- Manufacturer's suggested use: Dogs, give 1 tablet per each 20 lbs of body weight twice daily. Dosage may be adjusted to maintain a uringe pH between 7 and 7.5.

From Fairfax, VAComments about K-CIT-VOur beagle had bladder stone surgery about 5 months ago. After trying some granules and other forms of supplements per the vet, we were advised to switch to this product. Three weeks later we did another urine sample and for the first time since surgery his ph levels were exactly where she wanted them to be! Ordering our 2nd bottle tonight. Awesome product. -

Great service & product
From Hobbs, NM, USAComments about K-CIT-VI have been giving my dog Scooter K-CIT-V ever since he had bladder stone surgery. I found vetrxdirect while looking for this product more reasonably priced, since I was going to have to give it to him from now on. He is on his eighth or ninth bottle and he is good health with no return of stones. Scooter thanks you for making this product available at a good price so I could afford it. Thanks, David G. -
Indispensible

Great Value that works for my Bear!
From Pittsburgh, PA, USAComments about K-CIT-VBear has had issues with urinary stones. His ph levels were low even after the diet change. Adding this has helped tremendously! Generally he turns his nose up when offered other beef flavored snacks. He loves this one though. Pills are well packaged. Stuffing with cotton helps reduce the amount of broken pills. I would recommend K-CIT-V to any dog that has urinary stone issues.

My dog currently has a prescription for Citravet, but it is on long-term manufacturer backorder. No ETA on availability has been released. Is this product comparable to Citravet??
-
K-CIT-V contains 640mg of Potassium Citrate vs 675 mg of Potassium Citrate in Citravet. The different amounts of Potassium Citrate may require different dosing schedules. Please talk to your veterinarian about any further questions or concerns.

Why is there such a difference in dosage between the granules & chewables? I have 2 furbabies and they both eat the same food, so a chewable tab can assure only the pup that needs the supplement gets it! Thanks?
-
K-Cit-V is a supplement used for dogs to help adjust their urinary pH, which helps reduce the formation of urinary stones. The use of this medication must be done under veterinarian supervision. Each 5 gram scoop of the granules contains potassium citrate (microencapsulated) 320 mg and cranberry extract 115 mg. Each of the chewable tablets has potassium citrate 640 mg and cranberry extract 115 mg. This is the way the manufacturer produces the medication, so if you need assistance dosing the medication for your dogs please contact your pet's veterinarian.

My Bichon Frise has a liver shunt and had two bladder surgeries for stones. I am giving him adenosyl and tried the potassium citrate granules but he won't eat it on his food. I think tablets would be better his weights only 10 lbs. Can I do 1/2 a tablet?
-
The chewable tablet form of K-Cit-V is okay to be split in half and to be given to your pet. However, due to your pet’s current medical conditions and other past medical history unknown to us, we recommend you consult your veterinarian regarding the correct dose of this medication for your specific pet.

-
Shadow, When using K-CIT-V supplement for the prevention of calcium oxalate urinary stones in your pet, the pH of your pet’s urine is important to monitor. The manufacturer of K-CIT-V recommends the urinary pH range to be between 7 and 7.5. There are additional monitoring recommendations other than pH though. We advise that you contact your veterinarian to assist you in the dosing of this product for your pet. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Is the K-Plus Potassium Citrate plus cranberry for decreasing PH levels? My Rottweiler is almost 6 months old and has constant UTI's with increase PH levels causing struvite crystals. Will this supplement be helpful for us? ?
-
The potassium citrate in K-CIT-V Plus cranberry is designed to alkalinize or INCREASE the pH of your pet’s urine for the treatment of certain types of urinary stones. Since struvite crystals are the result of an increased urinary pH, this product would NOT be beneficial for your pet. Please note: A urinary blockage is a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment. If your pet is unable to urinate, it is important to get him or her to a veterinary clinic immediately. Please consult your veterinarian regarding treatment, monitoring and follow-up for your pet’s condition. Thank you, VetRxDirect
