Great shampoo for itchy skin
From Miller Place, NY, USAComments about Hexadene Medicated ShampooI have purchased this from my vet several times at more than twice the price and was happy it finally occurred to me to shop around. My wheaten terrier has severe food and skin allergies, kept under control with diet and topicals and Benadryl/chlorpheniramine. Her allergies manifest in her ears or skin- vet says the skin blotches and scabs actually turn to an infection that requires an antibiotic to clear of not nipped in the bud right away. This shampoo helps keep it at bay. You MUST use as directed though and let it sit on the skin for 10 minutes. A cookie in the tub while we wait (or even a bone) helps her to understand the bath is not over while the meds work, lol. It's very thick and i do water it down a bit to help create a lather. No real scent which is preferable over a very medicated scent. It has been reliable in clearing her skin but you do have to keep on it and use it regularly- at least weekly. The price was lowest here, same exact stuff I get from the vet. -
Best shampoo available for problem skin!
From Palm Springs, CA, USAComments about Hexadene Medicated ShampooThis shampoo is seriously the ONLY shampoo I use on my pugs. If your dogs have allergies, dermatitis, Pyoderma, yeast infections, etc. the chlorhexadine in this shampoo controls it. It won't "cure" it but it maintains it. I've used it once a week while attending dog shows for grooming, but now just use it monthly since my guys are all retired now. It smells fresh & clean, not medicinal and rinses very easily. Virbac also makes a leave-in conditioner that works very well if you are treating skin conditions...does contain a steroid. It's Resi-Cort but check with your vet before using since it does contain a corti-steroid (doesn't interact w/other meds!!!)

My dog has allergies and scratches constantly. Her skin has flakes toward her behind. Can I use this shampoo on her??
-
It depends on what is causing your dog's allergies. Hexadene Medicated Shampoo has cleansing properties that may wash away allergens and antiseptic and antimicrobial properties for fungus, yeast and bacteria that may cause infections in skin breaks from itching. Your veterinarian would be able to assess your dog's allergies and recommend a product that is best suitable for your dogs condition. Thank you, VetRxDirect
