HeartGard Plus is a great medicine for heartworm prevention!
From UndisclosedComments about Heartgard PLUS Chewables for Dogs 51-100 lbs, 12 Month SupplyWe have been using HeartGard Plus chewables for our golden retriever, Nala, since she was a puppy. She easily takes the monthly chew with her food and has had no issues whatsoever with the HeartGard Plus medicine. She's not had any heartworm issues at all, so the medicine is doing its work! We also heard from several vets who recommend HeartGard Plus over the ProHeart 12 vaccine (apparently, dogs have died after taking that vaccine!). So, you should consider HeartGard Plus for heartworm prevention - it's working great for Nala!-

I missed giving my dog his heartworm prevention this month do I give it now and change dates to give it in the future, or wait till following month regular date, or make appointment for vet to check blood to see he is clear??
-
If the interval between doses exceeds 30 days, Heartgard Plus may not be as effective. If treatment is delayed, immediate treatment with the medication and resumption of the recommended dosing regimen is recommended. This will minimize the opportunity for the development of adult heartworms. We recommend following up with your dog’s veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Do I have to get a perscription. I do not want to pay for the test. My pet takes her heart meds every first day of month. I feel they either work or they don't. The test wont change anything.?
-
All heartworm preventives require a prescription by law. Most veterinarians will not approve more than one year of preventive at a time and require a heartworm test every year. In large part, this is because administering a heartworm preventive to a pet who has contracted heartworm can be very serious or fatal to a pet. Thank you, VetRxDirect

we have ben giving our dog iverhart max, and trying to get her to swallow the chewable pill is close to impossible. is the heart guard tastier and has the same ingredients? thanks?
-
Rosie, Heartgard Plus is a beef flavored chewable treat as opposed to the Iverhart Max which is a chewable tablet. Individual preference may vary from dog to dog. Iverhart Max contains the same active ingredients, in the same ratios as Heartgard Plus, but has the addition of a tapeworm agent, praziquantel. Speak with your veterinarian to determine if praziquantel is necessary for your dog and if switching to Heartgard Plus in the chewable treat dosage form is an option. Thank you, VetRxDirect
