Happy to find this medication
From UndisclosedComments about Gentocin Durafilm 5mL Dropper BottleThis is a tough medication to find. The price was reasonable, and the service was excellent. I would have given five stars, but when they told me my vet did not authorize purchasing four bottles, they did not mention that she authorized three bottles. Therefore the amended order was for one bottle. More shipping expense and additional orders will be required. -

My Vet prescribed this for my 10 year old Cocker Spaniel Glaucoma in his left eye. He also prescribes Dorzolamide HCI-Tramolol & Neomicin, Latanoprost Ophthalmic Solution. We are elderly and can't afford the $ 83.00 every time they are refilled. The Cocker is an inside dog is all that is prescribed absolutely necessary? My sister has Glaucoma and all she uses for the pressure In her eye is Lantanoprost Ophthalmic Solution. Please advise. Thanks, Sue?

We are not able to advise on a drug therapy without knowing the condition of your dog's glaucoma. The best way to find out is to consult with your veterinarian for additional options that may be more cost effective.

My chihuahua has styes under the top of his upper lid and his eyelids are red and swollen. Cant afford a vet fee as i became disabled and just had one dog seen for bladder stones, one seen for her atopic dermatitis with a staph infection. My care credit card is full. I wondered if this medication would help my 9 year old chi. He is healtby otherwise. He is esting and drinking. He is using his potty pad appropriately. Have done warm compresses, used warm tea bags, given him benedryl. Dont know if this med would be appropriate. Thank you?

Genocin Durafilm contains an antibiotic, gentamicin sulfate, and a steroid, betamethasone. It sounds like your dog may have a bacterial eye infection, but the irritation could be due to allergies, a virus, or a fungus. Your veterinarian will be able to determine the cause of the infection and ensure that there isn't a scratch on the cornea. It is important to know the cause of the infection because this eye drop contains a steroid, and steroids can make a bacterial infection or a corneal scratch worse. Unfortunately, we do not have the capabilities to diagnose your pet; he needs to be seen by a veterinarian in order to ensure appropriate treatment. Thank you, VetRxDirect

The vet prescribed Gentocin Durafilm for my CAT and assured me that it's safe even though the label says, "For use in DOGS only." Is this true?? I'm afraid to give my cat another dose until I get a second opinion.?
-
Gentocin Durafilm is a prescription eye medication that contains gentamicin sulfate (anti-microbial) and betamethasone (anti-inflammatory). It is used to treat eye infections in dogs. The manufacturer of Gentocin Durafilm did not conduct any clinical trials in cats. Many drugs for pets can be used safely and appropriately as an off label use, such as using Gentocin Durafilm in a cat. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I'm concerned because my veterinarian sold me these drops to treat my cat's eye infection. The packaging says, "for use in dogs only". The vet says they're fine. I'm wary. I used to buy bausch and lomb neomycin sulfate, polymyxin b sulfate and dexamethasone eye drops from him, but they don't carry them anymore. The B&L drops are labeled for dogs and cats. What do you recommend??
-
Gentocin Durafilm contains the antibiotic gentamicin as well as a steroid called betamethasone so it differs with your previous eye drops in terms of ingredients. The manufacturer indicates that the labeled indication on the package denoting its use in dogs is expressed to signify that any safety data with the product was assessed with only dogs and that any off-label use should be under the veterinarian's discretion. The active ingredient of the drug is used in cats under other formulations so its use is not an unusual medication for your animal. For any additional concerns, discussing the matter with your veterinarian is recommended. Thank you, VetRxDirect

What are the side effects of this?My dog is experiencing lethargic and feverish symptoms.?
-
The most common side effects associated with this medication are confined to the eye. Stinging, irritation, and redness are the most widely reported effects. It is unlikely that this medication would cause the symptoms you describe. If you dog is experiencing new onset lethargy and feverish symptoms, it could be an indication of a more widespread infection. We recommend talking to your veterinarian to determine what is causing these symptoms. Thank you, VetRxDirect
