Chronic or acute ear infections, also called “otitis externa,” can be caused by a certain type of yeast called Malassezia pachydermatis. Yeast can grow quickly in the ear’s warm, moist environment causing pain, itching, irritation, and swelling and making your dog very uncomfortable. Gentizol Ointment is specifically formulated to treat ear infections due to yeast. This prescription medication combines three active ingredients, including gentamicin (an antibiotic), betamethasone (a steroid), and clotrimazole (an antifungal), to fight bacteria and fungi, and reduce swelling. Awesome Product!
My 5yr old Shih-Tzu (Pebbles) had a terrible ear infection (yeast). I tried so many remedies out there, it's ridiculous. NOTHING WORKED! Finally found GENTIZOL. After using this ointment for 10 days, the infection is gone and Pebbles has never been happier. THE BEST PRODUCT BY FAR!!! Thank you VetRxDirect

Not a good product.
My vet prescribed Gentizol for my dog who's 11 and in good health. Within 3 days of using she lost all her hearing. I would give this product zero stars but you have to choose at least 1. I wouldn't suggest this product to anyone who loves their pet.

This is one of the best products the vet has recommended for my Sammy. Once I clean his ear and apply the medicine, he stops scratching and he stays relaxed for several days. I strongly recommend that you talk to your vet if your dog has an ear problem and if the vet recommends this product, buy from VetRxDirect as they sell it at a significant lower price.

Ringworm is a fungal infection that typically only needs to be treated with an antifungal. Gentizol is a topical ointment combination product containing an antibiotic (gentamycin), an antifungal (clotrimazole), and a corticosteroid (betamethasone) used to treat specific ear infections in dogs. why would a vet give gentizol ointment for our cats ear infection when it clearly state on the tube for dogs only.?

Gentizol is a veterinary prescribed topical ointment used in the treatment of certain types of canine ear infections. Gentizol contains an antifungal, antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory and is available in two different ointment formulations. As such, one formulation is thicker and is packaged in an ointment tube, while the other is is thinner and is packaged in a bottle. Both formulations have an included administration tip to facilitate the administration of the medication. My dog ripped open the bottle of Gentizol and licked. Is Gentizol posionous if swallowed? Thank you.?

If Gentizol ointment is ingested it may cause irritation in the mouth. It’s recommended to flush out mouth with water. If a significant quantity is consumed or unusual behavior and/or vomiting is present we recommend contacting your veterinarian for assistance.

Can this product cause deafness in older dogs. If so, would that deafness be permanent. If temporary, how long for return of hearing??

Gentizol is a combination of three medications: gentamicin (an antibiotic), betamethasone (an anti-inflammatory), and clotrimazole (an antifungal). While rare, Gentizol ointment has been associated with partial hearing-loss and deafness in a small number of dogs, particularly in older dogs. The hearing-loss is usually temporary and resolves with discontinuation of the medication, but can potentially cause irreversible damage. I've been using Gentizol in my dog's ear for about a week now and while he's not as itchy, his ear still stinks (not like the meds or ear wash I was given) and the hair around his ear is very oily and his ear is never dry. Normal??

Gentizol is an ointment so it can be very oily and make the hair around the ear seem wet. Before every dose of the product, the ear should be cleaned and dried. Any excessive hair should be trimmed from the ear (your veterinary technician can show you how to properly do this). After instilling the prescribed amount into the affected ear, massage the medication into the ear to ensure the medication is absorbed. If these steps are being followed therapy should be complete after around 7 days. You should still follow up with your veterinarian to ensure that the infection is cleared and that the smell you are experiencing is not something of further concern. Thank you, VetRxDirect
