Gentizol Ointment for Dogs
Canine ear infections associated with a yeast infection require special treatment. If your dog has this kind of ear infection, your veterinarian may prescribe Gentizol Ointment because it combines an antibiotic, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory into one convenient topical medication.
- Treats canine ear infections due to yeast
- Three treatments in one—antibiotic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory
- Soothing ointment is easy to apply
Chronic or acute ear infections, also called “otitis externa,” can be caused by a certain type of yeast called Malassezia pachydermatis. Yeast can grow quickly in the ear’s warm, moist environment causing pain, itching, irritation, and swelling and making your dog very uncomfortable. Gentizol Ointment is specifically formulated to treat ear infections due to yeast. This prescription medication combines three active ingredients, including gentamicin (an antibiotic), betamethasone (a steroid), and clotrimazole (an antifungal), to fight bacteria and fungi, and reduce swelling. The powerful trio works quickly and the topical ointment formulation is soothing on your dog’s ear.
What you should know about Gentizol Ointment:
- Talk to your veterinarian before using this product.
- Follow dosing directions exactly - don’t give your pet more medication than directed and don’t skip doses.
- Read the label carefully for information about storage, possible side effects, and drug interactions.
Resistance is a major concern when giving antibiotics. Resistance occurs when bacteria survive and mutate and are then able to survive even after antibiotics are given. To help avoid any resistance, it is important to give antibiotics as they are prescribed for as long as they are prescribed even if your pet is looking and feeling better.

I will buy this product again from VetRxDirect!
From undisclosedComments about Gentizol OintmentI have used this ointment on the ear of one of my dogs who seems to suffer from a chronic ear itch. This is one of the best products the vet has recommended for my Sammy. Once I clean his ear and apply the medicine, he stops scratching and he stays relaxed for several days. I strongly recommend that you talk to your vet if your dog has an ear problem and if the vet recommends this product, buy from VetRxDirect as they sell it at a significant lower price.

My 2 bull dogs had chronic, serious ear infections, crusty, draining & painful...they both are completely clear after treatment with this product. I have continued using the product 1X a week, just to maintain . Is this a problem? if so, what should I use to maintain healthy state in their ears??

Gentizol Ointment is labeled specifically to treat ear infections and be used for a period of 7 days. The manufacturer warns against continual use of this medication because it contains betamethasone, a corticosteroid. Please consult with your veterinarian about the appropriate use of this medication. Your veterinarian will also be able to recommend the best product to help maintain ears and prevent recurring infections.

My dog is shaking ear and scratches constantly so I've been giving her this product and its not improving what else should I use? How do you determine if it's mites or infection??
-
Gentizol Ointment contains three active ingredients (gentamicin, betamethasone, and clotrimazole) for the treatment of yeast-and bacteria-associated ear infections and to reduce inflammation..This product will not work against mites. The external ear should be cleaned and dry before starting treatment. For dogs weighing less than 30 pounds, instill 4 drops twice a day. For dogs weighing more than 30 pounds, instill 8 drops twice a day. Note, if using the 215 gram bottle, dosing is 2 drops twice a day for dogs up to 30 pounds and 4 drops twice a day for dogs more than 30 pounds. The 215 gram bottle also needs to be shaken before administering. Therapy should be continued for 7 days. If symptoms do not improve or worsen, contact your veterinarian. They can determine the cause of your dog's ear.

Can this still be used if it's pass the expiration date??
-
Gentizol ointment is indicated for the treatment of canine yeast infections and susceptible bacterial infections found in the ear. It contains three active ingredients which work together to combat these infections. The gentamicin is present in the formulation as an antibacterial agent, the betamethasone is an anti-inflammatory agent, and the clotrimazole is an antifungal agent. Each of these ingredients are important in the treatment of your pet's infection. If the gentizol has passed its expiration date, we cannot guarantee the potency or effectiveness of the ingredients that it is composed of. Please contact your veterinarian to acquire a new prescription for this product. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Gentizol Ointment. How do you use the tip? It turns either direction but does not open up. How do you get the drops out of the tube??
-
There is a cap on the tip that you need to pull off. Just pull it straight off, you don't need to twist it at all. The opening is under that cap. Thank you, VetRxDirect

-
The active ingredients of Gentizol Ointment are Gentamicin sulfate, Betamethasone valerate, and Clotrimazole. It combines an antibiotic, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory into one convenient topical medication. Typically, Gentizol ointment is used to treat ear infections, however your veterinarian may choose to use this medication topically for the conditions you are describing. The onset of symptom relief will vary based on the severity of the condition being treated. Speak with your veterinarian on this specific question. My dogs yeast infection is so bad that he has started losing little patches of hair but it seems like I recall the vet telling me that i could put a lil bit on his tail where it's so bad it looks like his tail gna detach from body. Also I'm having a hard time bcuz he is a big 70 pound pit bully & he is usually so gentle but the guy who had him as a pup chopped his ears himself with no pain med or antibiotics therefore he freaks out when u want to go near his ears. Please help me. He takes his pills just fine its just cleaning and getting the drops in that's the problem?
-
Gentizol ointment is labeled for use in the ear. If your dog is experiencing a severe infection around his tail, then he should be assessed by a veterinarian to make sure he receives appropriate treatment. Your veterinarian may suggest using Gentizol ointment topically on the affected skin of the tail. Methods of administering ear drops to a resistant dog should be determined by the dog's veterinarian. The veterinarian will be able to make recommendations which take into consideration the dog's temperament, size and other conditions the dog may have. Thank you, VetRxDirect
