50% less than the animal hospital pharmacy
My cat, Maximus, has feline herpes. The opthamologist at the animal hospital prescribed Famcilovir which was very expensive but I found it for half the price at VetRxDirect. The infection was cleared up in 10 days. It was a pleasure doing business with your staff who contacted the animal hospital, filled and shipped the medication within a couple of days. I highly recommend VetRxDirect to all my friends and pet owners.

Famciclovir: mixed results on feline upper resp
Trying this for the first time on a feline upper resp infection, getting mixed results - it seems to be effective on some aspects of the problem, but not others. Two days to go on Rx, so we'll see if the next 48 hrs (4 tabs) do the trick or not. If it doesn't, I CANNOT honestly say that Famciclovir "didn't work," all I CAN say is that my cat may have a resistance to it or have a different "bug" than this product is intended to treat.

Snowball is much happier when he has his medicine.
From UndisclosedComments about Famciclovir (Generic)My vet recommended that Snowball take Famciclovir to keep him from getting a runny nose due to his virus. It definitely reduces his flare ups and makes him a much happier cat. Thank you vetrxdirect for reminding me when to order so my kitty never runs out of medicine. -

A Life-Saver for Immunosuppressed Cats
From UndisclosedComments about Famciclovir (Generic)I have four cats, two of whom have regular herpes flares due to being immunosuppressed from long-term steroid treatment for IBD/IBS. The minute I notice sneezing or watery eyes, I intervene with Famciclovir, and every single time, it works to prevent the flare from becoming a full-fledged URI and/or eye infection. Without this drug to stop symptoms, I would be running a feline hospital all the time. I am so grateful that this is now a tool that cat owners can use for feline herpes flares.-
Two Bengals who are very grateful for Famciclovir . . . as much as cats are ever grateful for anything.

This medication works!
From UndisclosedComments about Famciclovir (Generic)Famciclovir has been a game changer for foster kitty Mama! She is battling stomatitis and chronic upper respiratory infections due to being FIV positive. This antiviral has kept her URI free even though she is taking low dose prednisolone to keep her comfortable in spite of remaining mouth inflammation. She is comfortable, eating well and happy!-

Seen it work wonders
From UndisclosedComments about Famciclovir (Generic)I have seen this drug help prevent terrible herpes eye infections when given at the first sign of redness. It can also help a great deal with very bad URIs in cats and kittens. And unlike antibiotics, you don't have to do a full course. Check with your vet as the recommended dosage has increased over the years, finding it to be more effective. -

I would certainly buy this on a consistent basis.
From UndisclosedComments about Famciclovir (Generic)Really prompt delivery . I also appreciate when there are discount codes available. My cat has herpes in one eye, and things seem to stay pretty stable in that eye with regular use of this medication.

Q & A

I ordered famciclovir in 250 mg tablets. They are about the size of an aspirin, and I'm supposed to give my cat one pill, twice per day. He weighs about 13 pounds, so he's a big boy, but are these too large to give a whole one to a cat? I've been breaking them in half, but that means pilling him twice. I coat with butter before I pill. I tried putting them in his food but he would not eat it. He is diabetic so I'm not sure I can use pill pockets?
-
If you are having difficulty giving your pet this medication, we recommend asking your pet's veterinarian about different methods for pill administration or some different medication options.
Verified Answer -
I cut all my cats pills and put them in empty gelcaps. I put a small spec of butter on the end and use a piller. Then I follow up with a couple of shots of water with a syringe "across" his mouth, never directly in it.

My cat who is 11 lbs was prescribed 250mg three times a day. It seems abit much since this would be the dosage for a human also? And Im concerned about overdosing him.?
-
The dosing for famciclovir has not yet been established but it is an effective treatment for feline herpesvirus Type-1. If you are concerned with your cats dose, please speak with your veterinarian and they will be able to discuss the benefits versus the risks associated with that dose for this medication. I crush mine and mix with her other meds, ( liquid Reglan). You could crush and mix with a small amount of water. I suggest the smallest amount possible.

Are the 125mg tablets Round, Oval, or Bar Shaped??
-
Actually I just got my order, the 125mg tablets are round and about the same size as regular aspirin, I have to quarter mine and the quarters were pretty small, worked great in a feline pill pocket, he didn't even notice it.

-
can the be crushed and put into soft cat food??
-
Yes, famciclovir can be crushed and administered with soft cat food. We recommend administering the medication with a small amount of food to ensure the pet obtains the full dose of the medication. If the dose is mixed within an entire container of cat food and your pet does not ingest all of it, there is no way to know if your pet received a full dose of medication. Thank you, VetRxDirect
