Don't use for ear infections. Can't get ointment in syringe
this stuff is impossible to work with. they give you this syringe for the dogs ears but you can't really get the ointment into the syringe without wasting tons of it. even the vet couldn't figure it out. she sent me home with a different syringe but that's not really working either. stuff is a waste of time.

Q & A
-
Can I use this on my dog if he licks himself?
-
Per the manufacturer, if a small amount is ingested there should be no issue. If you find your dog constantly licking the ointment off after application, you may want to contact your veterinarian to determine how to prevent this. If large quantities are ingested, the medication could be harmful to your dog. Side effects to look out for would be: vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst, urination, and/or appetite. If you notice any of these effects, you should contact your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Typically, this topical medication should be applied sparingly in a thin film over the affected area. The dose amount will vary depending on the type and severity of infection. Please consult with your veterinarian to verify that you’re dosing the medication appropriately. Thank you, VetRxDirect

-
We do not recommend the use of any medication past the manufacturers provided expiration date. Expired medications may be subpotent and potentially lead to a worsening of the disease state or unwanted side effects if administered. Contact your veterinarian to decide what is best for the treatment of your pet. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I applied Derma-Vet ointment per Dr's instructions to my dogs ears since they got so red from scratching. After I applied it, he stopped scratching but starting shaking his head like crazy and panting heavily. Is it possible it burns??
-
Derma-Vet ointment contains four active ingredients: Nystatin, Neomycin Sulfate, Thiostrepton and Triamcinolone acetonide in a gel base consisting of polyethylene glycol and mineral oil. The 4 active ingredients provide 4 therapeutic effects: antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antipruritic (anti itch). As you mentioned, your dog’s ears have become red from repeated scratching. This redness is the result of inflammation and tissue irritation. The application of Derma-vet to your dogs ears could potentially cause irritation and burning, as the skin of the ear has been damaged. As this medication begins working, the skin will become less red and inflamed as it heals. If the redness doesn’t improve after a few days of therapy contact your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My vet gave this to me for my cats red, swollen inflamed corners of his mouth. Problem is: Every time I apply it to the corners of his mouth he licks it off. Any suggestions how to keep it on without him licking it off??
-
Derma-vet contains four medications intended to treat inflammation, and certain fungal and bacterial infections of the skin. Per the manufacturer, ingesting a small amount of medication should not harm your pet. If a large amount of the ointment is taken in by mouth, the medications could cause side effects; therefore it would be important to only use the mediation as often as directed. Contact your pet’s veterinarian immediately if you feel your pet has ingested a large amount or is experiencing side effects such as increased thirst, nausea, or vomiting. There is also the issue of the pet removing the ointment from the site and possibly decreasing the medication’s desired effect. Speak with your pet’s veterinarian if you notice the condition not improving or worsening. This would be the sign that an alternative treatment may be needed. Thank you, VetRxDirect

is this the same as resortin 15ml??
-
Both Derma-vet and Resortin contain the same four active ingredients: nystatin, thiostrepton, neomycin, and triamcinolone. These medications are used to treat certain bacterial and fungal infections and relieve itching. Your veterinarian would be helpful in diagnosing your pet and selecting the most appropriate treatment. Thank you, VetRxDirect

We are going to use derma-vet ointment on my dogs paws. Will it hurt her if she licks her paws after putting this on. If so how can we avoid her doing this.?
-
Derma-vet contains four medications: nystatin, thiostrepton, neomycin, triamcinolone. Per the manufacturer, the ointment will not harm the dog if a small amount is ingested, but the problem lies with the dog removing the ointment from the site and therefore decreasing its effectiveness. They suggest using a collar or cone to keep the dog from licking the area until the medication is soaked in. If you become concerned that you dog has ingested a large amount of this medication please contact your pet’s veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Derma-Vet ointment does require a prescription. We can accept prescriptions in a couple of different ways. Once an order is placed we can send a fax over to your pet's veterinarian and the veterinarian can either fax a prescription back or call to approve the prescription.
