Excellent product
I started giving crananidin to my dog about 1.5 years ago. He is diabetic and started having a lot of urinary tract infections. The crananidin was helping him to not get an UTI as often. The UTI culprit ended up being the probiotics that I was encouraged to give him by the vet and was giving him twice a day. Once I heard that probiotics also cause UTI's (believe it or not from an eye specialist office for animals never from the vet office that encouraged it) I immediately stopped giving him them and he hasn't been positive for a UTI since & it has now been eight months without one...coincidence? Not at all; the probiotics cause UTI's and my dog is proof. The UTI's started right after I started the probiotics and ended as soon as I ended them. The crananidin is used to continue to maintain him because it works and due to the diabetes and the extra sugar that often spills into his urine. I recommend crananidin to any pet owner who is experiencing these issues with their dogs. Just be careful about what other things might be contributing to UTI's.

Trying this on a cat
From UndisclosedComments about Crananidin Chewable TabletsOur vet suggested trying this for a senior cat with recurring bladder infections. Although she has only been taking it a short time, and only time will tell if it's effective, I've been pleased with the fact that it has been easy to give - 1/4 tab wrapped in a Pill Pocket, and she eats it willingly. She crunches through the pill, and apparently likes (or at least doesn't mind) the taste. This is a big issues with this difficult-to-pill kitty! Fingers crossed that it will be helpful in preventing future problems -
Using at vet's strong suggestion.
From UndisclosedComments about Crananidin Chewable TabletsSmall dog has been having bladder problems and urinary tract infections. This was suggested by our vet, and she has been taking it for several months now. We are hopeful it is helping, no repeat occurrences of UTI, but only a few months in. Vet upped the dosage, we are following his recommendation. -

Q & A

My 10 yr. old dog who has a history of chronic UTI needing various antibiotics (depending on the bacteria), usually Baytril. Unrelated, she just last week had extreme gastrointestinal symptoms (also chronic) that resulted in pancreatitis and an ER visit. She is only a week out from that and still healing but is now showing the familiar signs of a UTI starting. Per all veterinary instruction, I cannot give her antibiotics when her system is so fragile but one recommended cranberry supplements were a possible way to help the situation. Is it safe to give in this circumstance? Please advise. My dog is on two other Nutramax supplements already (Proviable and Cobalequin), with good results, so this is the brand I trust.?

Crananidin contains bioactive proanthocyanidins (PACs) which block the adhesion of certain E. coli, a common bacterial pathogen of UTIs, from attaching within the bladder. Cranberry supplements have potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Many studies have found no toxicity after treatment with cranberry extracts in mice and rats, however, this product should not be used if your dog has known allergies or sensitivities to this product. Ask your veterinarian if this product is right for your dog.

Should crananidin be taken with or without food for the best efficacy? Thank you?
-
Thank you so much for this great question! We spoke with Nutramax, the manufacturer of Crananidin. They stated that taking this supplement with or without food does not affect the efficacy of the product. However, they do recommend giving the supplement after the last urination before bed on a daily basis. If you have further questions or concerns, it is recommended to discuss with your veterinarian before administering the product and follow their recommendations for use. Thanks again, VetRxDirect!

Can anyone verify the ingredients in this product? We have an elderly Pug who has been battling frequent UTIs and our vet recommended initiating a cranberry supplement. He had no advice regarding a brand, just that they are readily available online. Our pug also has a laundry list of allergies so I just want to validate prior to ordering that the ingredients I could find listed (Active Ingredient:Cranberry Extract* (Vaccinium macrocarpon) 93 mg, Other Ingredients: Magnesium stearate, mannitol, natural liver flavor, and sucralose.) was all the product contained. In my search I have found other chew supplements that contain brewers yeast which she is allergic to. Thanks in advance!?
