Q & A

chewable clavomox prescribed for my dog along with prednisone, twice a day to start with. how far apart should i administer the medicine? 8 hours or 12 hours. My dog is 52 pounds and the clavamox is 375 mg and the prednisone is starting at 20 mg. it is for a mouth/lip infection.?
-
According to Plumb’s Veterinary Handbook, there is no drug interaction between Clavamox (amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium) and Prednisone. Since there is no drug interaction, Clavamox and Prednisone can be given at the same time. If both drugs are to be administered twice daily, the 2 doses should be given 12 hours apart for even spacing. Please consult with your veterinarian regarding any other concerns you may have with Clavamox and Prednisone and your dog.
