I was prescribed this med for my cat. But the box says for dogs only. Is it ok to give to her? She has pyometra ?
-
Pyometra is treated with antibiotics as determined by your pet’s veterinarian. The antibiotic therapy and dose chosen by the veterinarian is based off of a clinical evaluation of your pet and bacterial culture results if available. Brand name Biomox, suspension or tablets, contains a broad-spectrum (activity against several common bacterial organisms) antibiotic called amoxicillin. Biomox does contain a labeled warning that it is for use in dogs only. This may be because, to date, Biomox only has official FDA approval for use in dogs. However, Biomox is commonly used off-label (without FDA approval) in cats at the discretion of an experienced, licensed veterinarian. As with any medication, if you have concerns about the medication's effectiveness or notice possible side-effects of the medication (i.e. vomiting, diarrhea) in your pet, you are encouraged to contact your pet’s veterinarian immediately.
