release to ship antibiotics may have you waiting
From Chicago, IL, USAComments about Simplicef (cefpodoxime proxetil)Simplicef worked great! Product came as described. The price was good. Some shipping issues though. Sending VetRxDirect your prescription to release and ship the antibiotic may have you waiting longer then you wanted to. Communication between my vet and VetRxDirect had my deathly sick dog "Tank" waiting a couple extra days for the Simplicef. In the end, after the prescription issue was taken care of and VetRxDirect sent my purchase with upgraded shipping. My dog is healthy again, thank you so much VetRxDirect :)-

Works great on my dog with hot spots!
From Sacramento, CA, USAComments about Simplicef (cefpodoxime proxetil)My 9 year old fur baby suffers hot spots every spring. The vets has prescribed him in the past just about everything, temaril-P, cortisone shots, multiple medicated dips, Malaseb shampoo, derma-vet ointment, simplicef, & some others I can't think of right this moment. But Simplicef along with derma-vet ointment(animax), and malaseb shampoo together seems to help calm the itching and the hot spots goes away. My dog is currently on a 10 day simplicef dose, once a day. It is 6th day, I have given him two baths with Malaseb shampoo within the 6 days and animax ointment directly on the hot spots. I noticed it clearing up within the first day, and as of today he is no longer itching or licking, no scabs, or fresh wounds, and his skin is back to light pink. I have used the malaseb shampoo by itself and that didn't clear up the wounds. I've also used up a 15ml tube derma-vet ointment but the hot spots were so overwhelming, only parts of his body cleared up. I truly think the oral medication Simplicef help tremendously along with the baths and ointment. As his whole body is now clear of hot spots. It may again just be temporary until the medication is gone. I have used vetrxdirect in the past and with comparison of how much the vet charges, I save twice if not three times the $$ ordering from vetrxdirect. I will continue to use them or future orders.-
feel better if I get a treat ;)

The primary side-effects of Simplicef (cefpodoxime proxetil) may include diarrhea and vomiting. If these side-effects occur often, they can affect your pet’s ability to take or absorb the medication. Especially if the vomiting and diarrhea occur around administration of a dose. Frequent vomiting and diarrhea can also cause dehydration in your pet. Taking this medication with food is usually recommended and may help, but if this side-effect continues, you should report it to your pet’s veterinarian. Your pet’s veterinarian will be able to determine if the therapy is still effective, if a longer duration is needed, if the dose may be too high, and how to best minimize any side-effects in the future. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Can cefopodxime and bendrayl be given together??
-
Songie, There are no drug interactions between cefpodoxime and Benadryl (brand named diphenhydramine) and can be safely given together. Keep in mind that cefpodoxime is an antibiotic and may cause allergic reactions in whomever may be susceptible. If this is the case and reason for the Benadryl administration, we recommend having frequent follow up by your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Simplicef 100 mg seems to be the only medication that helps our 10 yr old cocker with her skin problems but they start to get bad again after 1-2 weeks of being off simplicef. How safe is this to give all the time and if safe to give daily? Thanks. Buni?
-
Buni, This drug, along with the other antibiotics in its class, are generally considered safe in dogs. It would be hard to predict any specific side effects your dog may experience from taking it daily long-term. Keeping up with all of the lab and veterinary appointments will help monitor for any long-term problems. Keeping a close eye on your dog and coordinating with the veterinarian are great ways to prevent a problem from happening with this medication, should one occur. Thank you, VetRxDirect
