Excellent product!
From Sugar Land, TXComments about Preventic Tick CollarI have used this collar consistently for almost 10 years. We hunt and camp all over Texas, and ticks live everywhere we go. in all that time, I've only found 2 ticks on my dog, and both times he was wearing a collar past its expiration date of 3 months. -

Q & A

My dog is on phenobarbital for seizures. Most flea and tick products contain ingredients that are not recommended for pets with seizures. Can my dog safely wear the Preventic collar??
-
The manufacturer recommends consulting a veterinarian before using this product on dogs that are taking any medications. The active ingredient in Preventic collar is amitraz, a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor which kills ticks by interfering with their nervous system. According to Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook, phenobarbital is known to interact with MAO inhibitors like amitraz, and may prolong the effects of phenobarbital. Please consult with your veterinarian before using this product for your dog. Your veterinarian will be able to safely determine the best flea and tick preventative that fits your dog's needs.

I am switching my dogs from the scalibor collar to the preventic collar. How much of a waiting period is there before it is safe to change from one type of tick collar to the other??
-
Andy, Scalibor and Preventic collars contain different ingredients so unfortunately it is hard to give a definitive answer to this question. There are variables that play a role in this question such as how long the Scalibor collar has been on, the hair-coat type and length, and how active the dog is; which stimulates the release of medication from the collar. We recommend contacting your dog's veterinarian because the doctor will most likely have experience with switching from one collar to another. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Can I just cut off the excess of a 25 inch preventic collar for a small dog, even if it results in a collar less than 18 inches??
-
Dortha, Yes, the dosing of medication is even across the collar, and cutting off excess does not affect the collar's effectiveness. Small dogs can also use the 25-inch collar (provided the excess is cut off) without worrying about there being too much medication in the collar. Thank you, VetRxDirect

If I order now for next Spring, I need to ensure it will not go past the expiration date. I know not to open the package until I am ready to use it.?
-
Chris, Due to the storage requirements of prescription and OTC pet medications, we do not recommend buying products you do not plan to give or apply fairly close to the purchase date. It's best to let us keep the products in a properly maintained temperature and humidity facility until your pet needs the product. This also helps to guarantee fresh, long dated items. Thank you, VetRxDirect
